Talanoa Hufanga forces and recovers two fumbles in Denver Broncos 13-10 Week 5 win over Los Angeles Chargers

Inglewood, CA - The Denver Broncos left Southern California with a victory even though the Los Angeles Chargers finished with more first downs, more rushing yards, more passing yards and more offensive yards.

Denver built a modest advantage in a low-scoring game and protected it well enough to defeat Los Angeles 13-10 in Week 5. The Broncos finished with 293 offensive yards, but their defense recorded five sacks and Talanoa Hufanga supplied the most productive individual defensive performance of the game with two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

The final margin reflected an afternoon in which neither offense consistently separated. Denver established a slim edge and spent the later stages playing from ahead, while Los Angeles continued to apply pressure and remained within one score. The Chargers ultimately held a 346-293 advantage in offensive yards and recorded 16 first downs to Denver's 13, yet the Broncos walked away with the result that mattered.

Hufanga's two recoveries stood out in a game that did not feature an interception from either defense. Around him, Denver generated consistent production in the pass-rush column. Nik Bonitto recorded two sacks, while Poona Ford finished with 1.5. Los Angeles recorded two sacks of its own.

"When the ball comes loose, you have to finish the play," Hufanga said. "Getting two of them is something I'm proud of, but the best part is seeing 13-10 on that scoreboard and knowing we got the win."

The Broncos did not produce gaudy passing numbers. Bo Nix completed 15 of 34 attempts for 187 yards and a 61.7 passer rating, with his longest completion covering 27 yards. Courtland Sutton was his most productive target, catching seven passes for 93 yards and accounting for nearly half of Denver's passing yardage.

Sutton's work provided a steady presence within an otherwise uneven passing performance. Denver converted 4 of 14 third downs and finished with 106 rushing yards. J.K. Dobbins led the Broncos on the ground with 62 yards on 14 carries and scored a rushing touchdown.

"It was the kind of game where every possession felt important because nobody was putting up points in bunches," Sutton said. "We weren't as efficient as we wanted to be, but we stayed engaged and came out of here with a win."

Los Angeles produced more yardage through the air and on the ground. Justin Herbert went 24 of 40 for 229 yards, posting a 75.9 passer rating and a long completion of 26 yards. He spread much of that production between Ladd McConkey, who caught seven passes for 72 yards, and David Njoku, who added six receptions for 62 yards.

The Chargers also received the game's top rushing total from Omarion Hampton. He gained 95 yards on 15 attempts, including a 31-yard run, as Los Angeles finished with 117 rushing yards. Even with those advantages, the Chargers scored only 10 points.

"There were yards out there, and we moved the ball at different points, but 10 points isn't the standard," Herbert said. "You look at the total offense and know there were opportunities to get more out of it. We have to be sharper with the chances we get."

The teams posted identical red-zone results: two trips, one touchdown and one field goal apiece. Los Angeles converted 5 of 15 third downs and went 1 for 2 on fourth down, while Denver's offense managed four third-down conversions in 14 attempts. Those numbers fit the broader shape of a game in which sustained offensive consistency was difficult for both sides.

Nix acknowledged that Denver has room to improve after completing fewer than half of his passes.

"I need to be more accurate and give us more chances to stay on the field," Nix said. "At the same time, you appreciate winning a game like this. We'll take the result, learn from what wasn't clean and move forward."

Denver's narrow victory came despite Los Angeles finishing with 53 more offensive yards and three more first downs. The Broncos instead departed Inglewood with a 13-10 win and a defensive box score featuring five sacks, two forced fumbles and two recoveries by Hufanga.
