Drake Maye scores two rushing TDs as New England Patriots top Las Vegas Raiders 21-13 in Week 5

Foxborough, MA - Drake Maye scored two rushing touchdowns, Corey Kiner added another and the New England Patriots defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 21-13 in Week 5.

New England entered the matchup on a three-game winning streak and added another victory with a performance defined statistically by its production near the goal line. The Patriots scored touchdowns on three of their four red-zone trips. Las Vegas reached the red zone three times but finished with no touchdowns and one field goal on those opportunities.

That difference stood out in a game where the overall offensive totals were almost identical. New England finished with 348 offensive yards, only three more than Las Vegas, while the Raiders recorded 18 first downs to the Patriots' 15.

"The red zone is where you want touchdowns, and we finished three of those trips," Maye said. "I'm glad I could contribute with my legs. There are still things we can clean up, but getting the win is the part that matters."

Maye completed 15 of 28 passes for 167 yards and supplemented that production with 33 rushing yards on nine carries. His two rushing scores were part of a 181-yard day for the New England ground game.

Kiner handled the largest share of that work, finishing with 99 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. His longest run covered 28 yards, and he averaged nearly six yards per attempt. Together, Kiner and Maye accounted for 132 of New England's rushing yards and all three of its verified rushing touchdowns.

"You always want the 100, but 99 yards and a win is a good day," Kiner said. "I wanted to run with purpose every time I got the ball. Drake gave us another element on the ground, and we were able to get touchdowns out of our red-zone chances."

Maye's most productive target was Romeo Doubs, who caught six passes for 75 yards. Doubs supplied nearly half of New England's passing yardage and recorded the longest reception of the game at 29 yards. The Patriots also received 28 yards on two catches from Hunter Henry.

Las Vegas produced slightly more through the air, with Fernando Mendoza completing 20 of 32 passes for 189 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Brock Bowers finished with two receptions for 29 yards and a touchdown, while Tyreek Hill led the Raiders with 67 receiving yards on four catches.

The Raiders also had multiple productive options in the backfield. Dylan Laube rushed for 72 yards on 12 attempts, including a 43-yard gain, and Ashton Jeanty added 46 yards on seven carries. Las Vegas totaled 156 rushing yards, leaving the Patriots with a 25-yard advantage in that category.

"There were yards there, and we converted half of our third downs, but the red-zone numbers are hard to get past," Mendoza said. "Three trips without a touchdown isn't the standard. I also have to own the interception and be better with the football."

New England's defense finished with three sacks and one interception. Las Vegas recorded two sacks but did not intercept a pass. The Patriots' offense went 6-for-16 on third down and 1-for-2 on fourth down, while the Raiders converted 7 of 14 third downs but came up empty on both of their fourth-down attempts.

Those figures gave the game an unusual statistical shape. Las Vegas held the edge in first downs, passing yards and third-down conversion rate. New England countered with more rushing yards, an interception on defense and a sharply different red-zone line.

The Patriots did not need a large advantage in yardage to finish with the larger number on the scoreboard. Their 21 points came with Maye and Kiner supplying three rushing touchdowns, while the defense recorded three sacks and an interception. The result extended New England's run after it entered Week 5 with three consecutive victories.
