East Rutherford, NJ - The Cleveland Browns steadily created separation from the New York Jets, turning a game with relatively balanced offensive production into a 31-10 victory in Week 5.
Tank Bigsby scored two rushing touchdowns, Quinshon Judkins added another on the ground and Jerry Jeudy finished with 103 receiving yards and a touchdown. Cleveland also recorded four sacks and an interception as the margin continued to grow.
The final score stood in sharp contrast to several of the team totals. New York finished with 388 offensive yards, compared with 363 for Cleveland, and recorded 18 first downs to the Browns' 15. The Jets also rushed for 150 yards and passed for 238, but Cleveland consistently held the stronger position on the scoreboard and ultimately pulled away.
"We didn't have a perfect day moving the chains, but we were able to finish with points," Tua Tagovailoa said. "You look at one third-down number and know there's a lot to clean up. At the same time, we kept giving ourselves opportunities to put the ball in the end zone."
Tagovailoa completed 18 of 35 passes for 245 yards and one touchdown, posting an 83.6 passer rating. His longest completion covered 80 yards, and Jeudy supplied the most explosive receiving production with four catches for 103 yards and a score.
Jeudy's performance gave Cleveland a 100-yard receiver despite the Browns completing only 18 passes. His longest reception went for 80 yards.
"When the ball came my way, I wanted to make something out of it," Jeudy said. "There weren't a lot of catches, but there were opportunities for big yards. Getting over 100 and scoring feels good, especially when it comes with a win like this."
Cleveland's backfield provided the rest of the touchdown production. Judkins carried 15 times for 84 yards and a score, including a 27-yard run, while Bigsby turned four attempts into 34 yards and two touchdowns. Bigsby's longest run was 16 yards.
The Browns finished with 118 rushing yards as a team. Their success on the scoreboard came despite going just 1-for-10 on third down. Cleveland converted its only fourth-down attempt and scored one touchdown on three red-zone trips.
New York found more consistency on third down, converting six of 20 attempts, and reached the red zone three times. The Jets came away with one touchdown and one field goal from those trips, accounting for their 10 points.
Geno Smith completed 23 of 42 passes for 238 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Garrett Wilson caught four passes for 64 yards and scored New York's touchdown, while Breece Hall carried the rushing attack with 110 yards on 25 attempts. Hall's longest run was nine yards.
"We had yards, we had first downs and we moved the ball in different ways, but 10 points is 10 points," Smith said. "That's the part that matters. I've got to be better with the football, and we have to turn more of that movement into scoring."
Cleveland's defense produced several notable individual lines. Tyson Campbell forced one fumble and recovered two, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah recorded a sack and forced a fumble, and Kenny Moore II contributed half a sack along with an interception that he returned 34 yards.
The Jets' ability to accumulate more offensive yards never translated into a comparable scoring total. Cleveland finished with four offensive touchdowns - three rushing and one passing - while the Browns' defense completed the afternoon with four sacks and an interception.
For Cleveland, the 21-point win provided a clear result from a box score filled with unusual contrasts: fewer offensive yards, fewer first downs and only one third-down conversion, but a decisive advantage where it counted most.
