Jacksonville, FL - Saquon Barkley rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns as the Philadelphia Eagles steadily created separation in a 41-14 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5.
Philadelphia paired its productive running game with timely red-zone work and a defense that intercepted Trevor Lawrence twice. Jacksonville generated more offensive yards, but the Eagles built an advantage, answered the Jaguars' passing-game production and continued widening the margin.
The final score stood in sharp contrast to the overall yardage. Jacksonville finished with 373 offensive yards to Philadelphia's 356 and threw for 328 yards, yet the Jaguars managed only 12 first downs and made one trip to the red zone. They came away from that visit without a touchdown or field goal.
Philadelphia, by comparison, reached the red zone five times and scored four touchdowns on those possessions. The Eagles also converted all four of their fourth-down attempts, while Jacksonville went 0-for-2. Neither team was especially efficient on third down: Philadelphia finished 4-for-14, and Jacksonville was 6-for-15.
The Eagles' clearest statistical advantage came on the ground. They rushed for 170 yards against Jacksonville's 45, with Barkley carrying 22 times and averaging better than four yards per attempt. Trey Benson added 51 yards on 11 carries and scored another rushing touchdown.
"Getting over 100 is always good, but the two touchdowns and the win are what I'll remember," Barkley said. "We stayed with the run, and everybody contributed to the result."
Jalen Hurts completed 21 of 31 passes for 186 yards and an 83.5 passer rating. His primary target was Dallas Goedert, who caught eight passes for 93 yards and recorded Philadelphia's longest reception at 34 yards. DeVonta Smith added three catches for 36 yards.
Hurts did not need a high-volume passing performance as Philadelphia gradually took command. The Eagles produced 19 first downs and kept adding to their lead while Jacksonville tried to respond through Lawrence and its receiving corps.
"We were balanced, and we did a good job finishing when we got into scoring range," Hurts said. "There are still things we can clean up, especially on third down, but putting up 41 points gives us a lot to build on."
Lawrence supplied most of Jacksonville's offense, completing 23 of 45 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns. Brian Thomas Jr. caught four passes for 83 yards and a touchdown, including a 51-yard reception, while Jakobi Meyers scored on one of his receptions. Brenton Strange also remained involved with five catches for 80 yards.
Those passing numbers gave Jacksonville occasional bursts, but the Jaguars never developed enough sustained scoreboard pressure to match Philadelphia. Their rushing output remained limited, with Lawrence accounting for 30 of the team's 45 yards on the ground.
Philadelphia's secondary delivered two of the game's most notable defensive performances. Quinyon Mitchell recorded an interception with 24 return yards, forced a fumble and deflected two passes. Riq Woolen added the other interception, returned it 19 yards and was credited with half a sack. The Eagles finished with two sacks overall.
"When the ball comes your way, you have to finish," Mitchell said. "We got two interceptions as a defense, and we stayed aggressive even when they were putting up passing yards."
Lawrence finished with a 71.3 passer rating, and the two interceptions accompanied a game in which Jacksonville moved the ball far more effectively through the air than on the ground.
"The yards don't mean much when the score looks like that," Lawrence said. "I have to be better with the football, and we have to turn more of that production into points."
For Philadelphia, the 27-point victory featured a 100-yard rusher, three rushing touchdowns and four successful fourth-down conversions. Jacksonville's yardage advantage never appeared on the scoreboard, leaving the Eagles with a convincing Week 5 road result.
