Salem, OR — Today the league has announced it is suspending Los Angeles Chargers head coach Julian for violating league rules. In week 6, versus the Oakland Raiders, the Chargers elected to go for it on 4th down from their one-yard line with the score 3-31 and just over 4 minutes left in the game.
According to the league rules, there were two violations.
- Under the section of PUNTS AND 4TH DOWNS
- Do not go for it on 4th down if you are in total control of your game!
- Under the section of GAMEPLAY RULES
- Games vs the CPU: Play the CPU the same way you would an opponent, the above Gameplay rules are to be followed even when playing the CPU. Don’t use the CPU games as a way to pat your stats and unfairly gain XP.
Julian will be eligible to return in week 9, following the Chargers bye week, against the New York Jets.
The league provided the following official statement –
With the evidence provided in the video, the league has no choice but to suspend Julian for one game. The league rules are very clear regarding stat padding and running up the score when a game is clearly out of reach for the losing team. We take no pleasure in suspending coaches but will do so when there is an egregious and clear violation of the league rules.
Yeah, the game was over. There was no need to do all that stuff. Regardless of how the season has been going, just play by the rules.
Good call by the commissioner. We all joined the league to avoid these infractions
They had the three timeouts though. I’ll never forget that line. Lmao
another one bites the dust
