Miami Gardens, FL - Antonio Gibson gave New York a steady presence on the ground, and the Jets' defense repeatedly took the ball away in a 22-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins in Week 12.
Gibson rushed for a game-high 114 yards on 15 carries as New York finished with 157 rushing yards and 335 offensive yards. The Jets built an advantage, absorbed Miami's attempts to close the gap and protected their position through the finish without needing a dramatic last-second score.
The win moved New York back to .500 at 6-6 after the Jets entered the afternoon with a 5-6 record. Miami dropped to 3-8 with its third consecutive loss.
Gibson was the game's most productive runner by a wide margin. He averaged 7.6 yards per carry, and his 27-yard gain was the longest run of the game. His 15 attempts were also the most by any player.
"I wanted to be patient without being passive," Gibson said. "When there was room, I tried to get downhill and finish the run. We needed consistency from the ground game, and I felt like we gave the offense that."
Cade Klubnik completed 20 of 37 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown, finishing with a 76.1 passer rating. New York did not throw an interception against a Miami defense that recorded one sack.
Omar Cooper Jr. led all receivers with 72 yards on six catches, including a 26-yard reception. Garrett Wilson had two catches for 21 yards and recorded New York's touchdown reception. The passing game was measured rather than explosive, but it complemented a rushing attack that finished with 46 more yards than Miami's.
The Jets were not especially efficient on third down, converting only 3 of 14 attempts. Miami went 6-for-17 in the same category and converted both of its fourth-down attempts. New York nevertheless finished with 16 first downs to Miami's 13 and held a 335-305 advantage in offensive yards.
The clearest statistical contrast came in the red zone. New York made two trips inside the 20 and came away with one touchdown and one field goal. Miami reached the red zone three times but did not score on any of those possessions.
Kyle McCord produced the game's highest passing total, completing 22 of 37 attempts for 194 yards, but he was intercepted twice and finished with a 50.9 passer rating. McCord also contributed 47 rushing yards on seven carries and scored a rushing touchdown. His 23-yard run was Miami's second-longest gain on the ground behind a 20-yard run from De'Von Achane, who finished with 50 yards on 14 attempts.
"I have to be cleaner with the football," McCord said. "We moved it at times, but the interceptions are on me. Three red-zone trips without points isn't the standard we're trying to reach."
Miami finished with 194 passing yards and 111 rushing yards, but its possessions repeatedly ended without points once the field shortened. The Dolphins remained within striking distance and narrowed New York's earlier advantage, though the Jets avoided surrendering control of the game's broader shape.
New York's defensive production extended beyond the two interceptions. D'Angelo Ponds recorded one of the picks, returned it 16 yards, forced a fumble and recovered two fumbles. Minkah Fitzpatrick had the other interception and returned it 20 yards, while the Jets finished with two sacks.
"The ball was available, and our job was to finish the play," Ponds said. "An interception is one thing, but when the ball is loose, everybody has to react. Getting those recoveries meant staying alert from snap to snap."
The Dolphins generated some of the afternoon's longer passing gains, including McCord's game-long 32-yard completion, but New York's defense finished with the more productive turnover total. Miami recorded no interceptions, while the Jets collected both of the game's picks and multiple fumble recoveries through Ponds.
For New York, the result erased the sting of entering Week 12 on a one-game losing streak and brought the club level through 12 games. Miami, which arrived on a two-game skid, now turns toward another road assignment after its losing streak reached three.
