Inglewood, CA - Blake Corum scored two rushing touchdowns, Matthew Stafford delivered an efficient performance and the Los Angeles Rams pulled away from the Arizona Cardinals for a 27-10 victory in Week 6.
The Rams gradually built their advantage rather than relying on a frantic finish. Arizona generated more offensive yards and first downs, but Los Angeles was sharper on third down and turned more of its red-zone opportunities into touchdowns. By the closing portion of the game, the Rams were managing a comfortable margin while the Cardinals searched for a response.
Both teams arrived with two-game winning streaks, with Los Angeles at 3-2 and Arizona at 2-3. The result went to the Rams even though the broad yardage totals favored the visitors. Arizona finished with 396 offensive yards and 23 first downs, compared with 376 offensive yards and 17 first downs for Los Angeles.
The efficiency numbers told a different story. The Rams converted 8 of 14 third downs, while the Cardinals went 4-for-14. Los Angeles made four trips to the red zone and recorded three touchdowns and a field goal. Arizona scored one touchdown and one field goal on its two red-zone visits.
Corum supplied the biggest scoring performance, rushing 13 times for 82 yards and two touchdowns. His longest run covered 23 yards, and the Rams finished with 125 rushing yards as a team. Arizona managed 63 yards on the ground.
"Getting into the end zone twice feels good, but I liked that we stayed with it and kept giving ourselves chances," Corum said. "There were yards available, and I wanted to be decisive every time I got the ball."
Stafford completed 20 of 32 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown, finishing with a 97.2 passer rating. His scoring pass went to Konata Mumpfield, who caught four passes for 74 yards. Tutu Atwell added four receptions for a team-high 79 yards, including a 30-yard catch.
Stafford also contributed 16 rushing yards on four attempts, giving Los Angeles another layer of production in a game that steadily moved in the Rams' direction.
"Eight of 14 on third down is a number we can feel good about," Stafford said. "We also finished our red-zone opportunities at a better rate. There are still things to clean up, but we were able to keep applying pressure to the scoreboard."
Arizona's passing game accumulated plenty of yardage without matching Los Angeles' scoring output. Jacoby Brissett completed 25 of 47 attempts for 333 yards and a 75.9 passer rating. Kendrick Bourne was his most productive target, catching 10 passes for 148 yards. Bourne repeatedly gave the Cardinals a reliable option as Arizona attempted to reduce the deficit.
"There were opportunities in the passing game, and I just tried to be available," Bourne said. "But when you finish with 10 points, the yards don't mean much to you afterward. We needed more at the end of those possessions."
The Cardinals did not receive the same production from their rushing attack. James Conner finished with 20 yards on eight carries, with a long gain of five yards. Arizona was forced to lean heavily on Brissett's arm, resulting in 47 pass attempts.
Pressure was present on both sides. The Rams recorded seven sacks, while Arizona's defense finished with five. Neither defense intercepted a pass, leaving the game's statistical separation to come from areas such as third-down conversion rate, red-zone touchdown production and the Rams' 62-yard advantage on the ground.
"We moved the football, but we didn't turn enough of that work into points," Brissett said. "When you throw it that many times and take that much pressure, everything has to be cleaner. We have to look at where those possessions stalled and be more consistent."
Los Angeles emerged with the 17-point victory despite trailing Arizona in passing yards, first downs and offensive yards. Corum's two touchdowns, Stafford's scoring pass and the Rams' three touchdowns in four red-zone trips highlighted a Week 6 performance that ended Arizona's two-game run of victories.
