Salem, OR — The regular season has come to an end. It was an exciting last week if the season as several teams were in the hunt. The Washington Redskins and Minnesota Vikings needed to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Both teams won, but that was not enough as the team that needed to lose, the Los Angeles Rams, got the win they needed to lock down the last wild card spot in the NFC.
In the AFC the Buffalo Bills needed to win and hope for a Tennessee Titans loss. Unfortunately for Bills’ fans their team didn’t get the win. Had they won, they would of gotten in following the Titans loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
So with that said, the playoff seeding is set. In the AFC, the Oakland Raiders will get home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The second seed belongs to the New England Patriots. The Patriots suffered a big blow in their final game when Tom Brady went down with a compound foot fracture. Brady had missed the previous six games after suffering a similar injury against the Denver Broncos. “It’s unfortunate, but we to win games it takes more than one player. We believe in Brian[Hoyer] and his abilities to run this offense. But, it will take a strong effort from everyone if we want to go deep in the playoffs.” said coach Sean Nguyen.
The AFC wild card games will open with the sixth seeded Titans taking on the Jaguars for a second straight week and then the fourth seeded Baltimore Ravens take on the fifth seeded Kansas City Chiefs.
Over in the NFC, the two top teams are the Atlanta Falcons and the Green Bay Packers. The Falcons will get home field advantage throughout the playoffs, while the Packers will get a first round bye.
The two NFC wild card games will be between the NFC East leading Philadelphia Eagles taking on Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions. The Eagles won the NFC East by winning their final game of the season versus the Dallas Cowboys. The second game will feature the Seattle Seahawks hosting the Rams.
It should be a great postseason as we have new teams, like the Rams, trying to go deep in the playoffs, while others, like the Patriots, will try to prove their regular season success was not a fluke.
