TreVeyon Henderson’s three TDs lift Patriots past Bills 37-35 after late missed field goal

Orchard Park, NY - TreVeyon Henderson supplied 210 yards from scrimmage and scored three touchdowns as the New England Patriots defeated the Buffalo Bills 37-35 in Week 4, denying Buffalo its first win of the season.

Henderson rushed 14 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns while adding four catches for 78 yards and another score. His explosive production included a 57-yard run and a 61-yard reception, giving New England a dynamic threat in both phases of an offensive performance that reached 414 yards.

The Patriots needed nearly all of that output to finish ahead in a game featuring two highly efficient quarterbacks and only four yards of separation between the offenses. Buffalo produced 410 offensive yards, recorded 21 first downs and finished with 35 points, but still slipped from 0-3 to 0-4.

Drake Maye completed 20 of 26 passes for 262 yards and two touchdowns, posting a 133.8 passer rating. He also rushed four times for 26 yards. New England finished with 253 passing yards and 161 rushing yards, giving the Patriots a productive split against a Buffalo defense that registered one sack and no interceptions.

"We were efficient, and we had different guys giving us production," Maye said. "TreVeyon was a big part of that. When a player can affect the game as a runner and a receiver, it gives the offense a lot to work with."

Henderson's versatility represented the most complete individual performance of the game, but he was not Maye's only downfield option. Tyquan Thornton caught three passes for 74 yards and a touchdown, with a long reception of 40 yards. Henderson's 61-yard catch was Maye's longest completion.

"I wanted to be dependable wherever I was involved," Henderson said. "You get opportunities in different ways, and the goal is to turn those touches into positive production. To finish with the win after a game like this is what matters."

Buffalo countered with an outstanding passing line from Josh Allen. The Bills quarterback went 19 of 25 for 248 yards and four touchdowns, finishing with a 146.3 passer rating. His longest completion covered 68 yards, and Buffalo paired that efficiency with 162 rushing yards.

Ray Davis led the Bills on the ground with 111 yards on 14 carries, while James Cook III added 44 yards on nine attempts. Davis also caught three passes for four yards and scored two receiving touchdowns, an unusual statistical line that reflected his scoring production despite limited receiving yardage.

Buffalo's other receiving touchdowns came from DJ Moore and Ty Johnson. Moore finished with three receptions for 87 yards, including the 68-yard catch, while Johnson recorded two receptions for 54 yards and a score. The Bills generated more first downs than New England and had one more rushing yard, but the final result left those advantages attached to another narrow defeat.

"Four touchdown passes and 35 points are things you expect to feel good about, but losing by two changes how you look at all of it," Allen said. "There was a lot of production out there. We have to take the result for what it is and understand that the standard has to be the whole game, not just the numbers."

The teams were also close on third down. New England converted 3 of 7 attempts, while Buffalo finished 4 of 9. The Patriots converted their lone fourth-down try; the Bills went 1 for 3.

Red-zone production produced a notable contrast in the statistical profile. Buffalo scored three touchdowns on five trips, while New England's five red-zone possessions yielded no touchdowns and one field goal. Even with that disparity, the Patriots finished with the higher point total.

For New England, the two-point victory followed a game in which Maye completed nearly 77% of his passes and Henderson averaged more than nine yards per rushing attempt. The Patriots finished with fewer first downs and one fewer rushing yard than Buffalo, yet left Orchard Park with the 37-35 result.

Buffalo's offensive showing was its strongest reason for encouragement, particularly with Allen throwing four touchdown passes and Davis surpassing 100 rushing yards. The larger season reality, however, remained unchanged: the Bills entered Week 4 searching for their first victory and exited it at 0-4.

The fourth quarter brought a dramatic series of events as both teams traded scores to set up a thrilling finish. New England extended its lead to 30-21 when Drake Maye connected with TreVeyon Henderson for a 61-yard touchdown pass at 8:49. Buffalo quickly responded two minutes later with Christian Benford’s 46-yard fumble return touchdown, narrowing the gap to 30-28.

With just under three minutes remaining, Henderson struck again, ripping off a 33-yard touchdown run to push the Patriots’ lead to 37-28. However, Josh Allen kept the Bills’ hopes alive with a 68-yard touchdown pass to DJ Moore at 2:13, bringing the score to 37-35.

As the clock wound down, Buffalo had a chance to snatch the victory. Tyler Bass attempted a 53-yard field goal with 0:32 left in the game but missed, leaving the Patriots to seal their win as Maye took a knee with 0:28 remaining.
