Seahawks vs Packers post game report

It was a welcoming home party Thursday night for the Seattle Seahawks as the globally known 12th man welcome their Super Bowl 48 Champions to Century Link Field for their first regular season game at home against Aaron Rodgers and the visiting Green Bay Packers.

First quarter Green Bay would receive and take the field on offense. With Aaron Rodgers precise passing and Eddie Lacy’ beast mode  like ground attack the Packers could be a potential threat to one of, if not the toughest defense in the league and on their opening drive Green Bay Proved to be so. The 12th man was loud, very loud, but from a past visit in 2012 Green Bay knew what to expect from the Seattle fans. From the Packers 19 yard line the Packers would seem as they could handle the noise as  Aaron Rodgers would lead the offense to Seattle’s 1 yard line for Eddie Lacy to put up six against the defense of Seattle from a yard out and silence the 12th man early in the first quarter 7-0.

With an offense lead by Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch in the backfield, and a healthy Percy Harvin on the outside this offense is able to put on a show against any defense and could be a defensive coordinators worst nightmare. Taking the kickoff would be Percy Harvin as he would ignite the crowd back on its feet with a 47 yard return setting up Russell Wilson and the offense at midfield.  With great starting field position on Seattle’s first offensive drive Russell Wilson would lead Seattle’s offense well into the second quarter all the way to Green Bays 5 yard line where the drive would stall as Russell Wilson would be sacked for an 11 yard loss by the Packers newest free agent signing Julius Peppers on a 3rd and 5 making it 4th and 16. Seattle would kick the field goal making it a 7-3 game.

On the Packers second possession with the ball on Green Bays 18 yard line 2nd and 9 Aaron Rodgers would throw an interception to Earl Thomas giving Seattle another drive starting with great field position on Green Bays 43 yard line.  This time Seattle would capitalize driving 7 plays for 44 yards capped off by a Marshawn Lynch 1 yard touchdown run giving the Seahawks the Lead middle of the second quarter 7-10. Percy Harvin would be injured on the possession with a broken collar-bone and will miss 6 to 8 weeks.  On the Packers very next possession 2nd and 5 on Green Bays 25 yard line Aaron Rodgers would throw another interception to the Seattle defense this time to Bobby Wagner giving Seattle its 3rd drive with great field position. With Seattle getting another turnover Russell Wilson would make the Packers Defense pay as he would find Ricardo Lockette and show Aaron Rodgers his own accuracy by throwing a perfect pass were only Ricardo Lockette could make the catch for a 17 yard touchdown on a 1st and 10 extending Seattle’s Lead late in the second 7-17.

Second half Third quarter Seattle would receive the second half kickoff and begin another offensive drive. Unfortunately Seattle’s drive would end with another 3rd down sack by M. Daniels on 3rd and 8 for a 7 yard loss making it 4th and 15 forcing Seattle to punt from its own 32 yard line. With Green bay needing to get back into the game the defense provided the stop they needed to do so. After the punt Green Bay would start at their own 35 yard line. Green Bay would drive into Seattle territory to the Hawks 39 yard line when Mason Crosby is called upon to kick a 56 yard field goal splitting the uprights making it a one possession game 10-17.

Seattle’s next possession would start at their own 25 yard line driving only to their own 44 where they are forced to punt. With a chance for Green Bay to tie the game with a touchdown the Packers offense would get to work at their own 27 yard line. On the 2nd play of the drive Rodgers would find the backup tight end for a 29 yard gain to their own 49 on the play Rodgers dislocates his elbow while being brought to the turf by Michael Bennett causing him to miss the remainder of the game on the Packers most critical drive of the game.

With Aaron Rodgers out for the game with a dislocated elbow Matt Flynn would come into the game to try and tie the game up. Flynn starting the drive at the 49 yard line with 6:55 to go in the 4th quarter the Packers turn to a heavy dose of ground attack getting Green Bay all the way to Seattle’s 4 yard line when Matt Flynn would find Jordy Nelson for a 4 yard touchdown reception with Richard Sherman in coverage. A 13 play 72 yard drive and lasted 7 minutes 5 seconds that tied the game at 17-17 with 41 seconds remaining in the Fourth quarter. Tie game, Seahawks with the ball on their own 33 yard line 36 seconds remaining in the Fourth quarter and all 3 timeouts remaining for Russell Wilson it was time to get to work. Russell Wilson would lead the offense to the Packers 22 yard line for 39 yard game winning field goal by Steven Hauschka with no time remaining giving the Seahawks a 17-20 win.
