Tampa, FL - The Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded explosive plays, special-teams touchdowns and repeated momentum swings throughout a wild divisional shootout, but Atlanta ultimately had the last answer.

Bijan Robinson rushed for 212 yards and a touchdown, Anthony Richardson Sr threw two scoring passes, and the Falcons outlasted the Buccaneers 50-42 in Week 8. The division rivals entered the afternoon with matching records, but Atlanta left Tampa with the victory after scoring 34 points in the second half and ending the Buccaneers' three-game winning streak.

Tampa Bay struck first with a big play through the air. Baker Mayfield connected with Emeka Egbuka for a 59-yard touchdown with 8:42 remaining in the opening quarter. Atlanta answered less than five minutes later with a defensive touchdown, returning a fumble 1 yard for a score to tie the game.

The Buccaneers regained the advantage on a 55-yard field goal and carried a 10-7 lead into the second quarter.

Atlanta tied the game with a 45-yard field goal, but Tampa Bay responded with a 15-yard touchdown run to move back in front. After another Falcons field goal trimmed the margin, the final seconds before halftime produced another burst of scoring.

Mayfield found Ted Hurst III for a 33-yard touchdown with only eight seconds remaining in the half, seemingly giving Tampa Bay the final points before the break. Atlanta still managed to squeeze in one more scoring play, however, drilling a 57-yard field goal as time expired to cut Tampa Bay’s halftime advantage to 24-16.

The third quarter introduced the special-teams fireworks.

Billy Bowman Jr. returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown with 9:49 remaining in the quarter, bringing Atlanta within two despite a failed two-point conversion. Tampa Bay answered with a 28-yard field goal, but Richardson later found Zachariah Branch for an 8-yard touchdown with 3:32 left, giving the Falcons their first lead at 29-27.

Robinson was at the center of Atlanta’s offensive success throughout the afternoon. He carried 22 times for a game-high 212 yards, averaging nearly 10 yards per attempt. His 48-yard run was the longest rushing play of the game, and his production helped the Falcons pile up 265 rushing yards.

"The workload was there, and I wanted to be efficient every time I got the ball," Robinson said. "Two hundred yards is something you appreciate, but the win is what gives the number meaning."

The fourth quarter turned into another scoring sprint.

Tampa Bay jumped back in front when Mayfield hit Cade Otton for a 67-yard touchdown with 9:49 remaining. The Buccaneers’ lead lasted only 10 seconds.

On the ensuing kickoff, Branch broke free for a 94-yard touchdown return, immediately swinging the advantage back to Atlanta at 36-34.

The Falcons kept attacking from there. Richardson connected with Drake London for a 7-yard touchdown with 4:06 remaining, stretching Atlanta’s lead to nine. Robinson then delivered the finishing blow on offense, breaking loose for a 33-yard touchdown run with 2:10 left to push the Falcons to 50 points.

Tampa Bay refused to go quietly. Mayfield found Otton again for a 31-yard touchdown with 46 seconds remaining, and Kenny Gainwell converted the two-point try to make it 50-42. But the late score only narrowed the final margin as Atlanta escaped with the eight-point victory.

Richardson completed 15 of 18 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns, finishing with a 149.0 passer rating. London led Atlanta with 85 receiving yards on five catches and scored once, while Kyle Pitts Sr added five receptions for 67 yards.

"I wanted to be accurate and give our guys chances to finish their catches," Richardson said. "When you have that kind of production in the running game, you don't need to force the ball. You just have to stay efficient with the opportunities you get."

Mayfield’s numbers were even larger despite the loss. He completed 31 of 45 passes for a game-high 450 yards and four touchdowns, posting a 130.7 passer rating.

Egbuka caught 10 passes for a game-high 154 yards and a touchdown. Otton added 114 receiving yards and two scores on four catches, including the 67-yard fourth-quarter touchdown that briefly put Tampa Bay back in front.

The Buccaneers finished with 482 offensive yards compared with Atlanta’s 447, but the Falcons controlled the ground game by a massive margin. Atlanta rushed for 265 yards while Tampa Bay managed only 64, a 201-yard difference.

Bucky Irving led the Buccaneers with 47 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.

Atlanta also produced several impactful plays outside its offense. In addition to the defensive touchdown and the two long kickoff returns, the Falcons recorded five sacks. James Pearce Jr accounted for three of them and forced a fumble.

"We knew it was going to take contributions from everywhere," Pearce said. "Their offense was making plays, so every time we could create pressure or change the game in another phase, it mattered."

The scoring summary reflected just how frantic the afternoon became. Tampa Bay led 24-16 at halftime. Atlanta surged ahead in the third quarter. The lead then changed hands twice within the first 21 seconds of the fourth after Otton’s 67-yard touchdown and Branch’s immediate 94-yard kickoff return.

By the end, the teams had combined for 92 points and 929 offensive yards.

For Atlanta, the 50-42 victory broke Tampa Bay’s three-game winning streak and gave the Falcons an important win over a division rival that entered Week 8 with the same record. For the Buccaneers, Mayfield’s 450 passing yards and four touchdowns were not enough to overcome Atlanta’s dominant rushing performance and a series of game-changing plays on defense and special teams.
