Kansas City, MO - Patrick Mahomes threw four touchdown passes, Xavier Worthy caught three of them and the Kansas City Chiefs steadily created separation in a 41-20 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6.
Kansas City finished with 426 offensive yards and produced touchdowns through both phases of its offense. The Chiefs built an advantage, answered Los Angeles' attempts to narrow the margin and eventually turned the game into a comfortable win. It was a strong response for a team that entered the matchup coming off its first loss.
Mahomes completed 24 of 36 passes for 261 yards and posted a 124.8 passer rating. His four touchdown passes represented the most prominent difference between the quarterbacks, and his longest completion covered 37 yards. Kansas City did not need overwhelming passing volume; Mahomes distributed the ball efficiently while the Chiefs also accumulated 165 rushing yards.
"We stayed patient and kept giving ourselves chances to finish possessions," Mahomes said. "There were different guys involved, and when the opportunities came, we were able to turn them into points. That is the kind of balance we want."
Worthy supplied the biggest receiving numbers for Kansas City. He caught four passes for 84 yards, scored three touchdowns and recorded the game's longest reception at 37 yards. DeMario Douglas added four receptions for 49 yards and another touchdown, accounting for the rest of Mahomes' scoring passes.
The concentrated touchdown production made Worthy's relatively modest reception total stand out. Three of his four catches ended in the end zone, giving Kansas City a scoring presence Los Angeles could not match as the Chiefs widened the gap.
"You never know how many chances you are going to get, so you have to be ready for every one of them," Worthy said. "To finish with three touchdowns and, more importantly, come away with a win feels great. The offense kept putting pressure on them."
Kansas City also held a clear statistical advantage on the ground. Ollie Gordon II rushed 15 times for 97 yards, including a 25-yard run, while Jared Wiley added 45 yards on six carries and scored a rushing touchdown. The Chiefs finished with 79 more rushing yards than the Chargers and 64 more offensive yards overall.
Los Angeles still generated stretches of productive offense. Justin Herbert completed 28 of 43 passes for 276 yards and finished with an 83.0 passer rating. His longest completion went for 23 yards, and he also scored a rushing touchdown while gaining 11 yards on two carries.
Ladd McConkey was Herbert's leading target, catching nine passes for 107 yards. The Chargers leaned heavily on that connection while trying to answer Kansas City's scoring, and McConkey was the only player in the game to surpass 100 receiving yards. Keaton Mitchell led the Los Angeles running game with 63 yards on 13 attempts, but the Chargers finished with 86 rushing yards as a team.
"We moved the ball and got into scoring range, but 20 points was not going to be enough with the way the game developed," Herbert said. "There were productive stretches, but we have to turn more of that yardage into points and give ourselves a better result."
The team statistics featured an unusual red-zone contrast. Los Angeles scored on all four of its trips inside the 20, producing two touchdowns and two field goals. Kansas City went scoreless on three red-zone visits despite finishing with 41 points. The Chargers also held the advantage on third down, converting 7 of 15 attempts compared with the Chiefs' 4-for-11 showing.
Neither defense recorded an interception, and both teams finished with two sacks. Los Angeles also collected one more first down, 19-18, but Kansas City's broader offensive production and touchdown totals accompanied a game in which the Chiefs continued to expand their advantage.
The victory sent Kansas City forward from a Week 6 matchup between division opponents that had both arrived on losing streaks. The Chiefs entered at 3-1 after one defeat, while the Chargers came in at 3-2 following consecutive losses. By the end, Kansas City had secured a 21-point win with Mahomes and Worthy at the center of the scoring production.
