Patrick Mahomes throws 2 TDs as Kansas City Chiefs top Miami Dolphins 24-14 in Week 3

Miami Gardens, FL - Patrick Mahomes threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns, Xavier Worthy turned in a 155-yard receiving performance, and the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Miami Dolphins 24-14 in Week 3.

Kansas City built an advantage and played from ahead for much of the game, maintaining its edge as Miami tried to close the gap. The Dolphins generated enough offense to apply pressure at different stages, but the Chiefs eventually finished with a two-score margin.

The statistical divide was clearest through the air. Kansas City produced 317 passing yards and finished with 415 offensive yards, while Miami had 102 passing yards and 234 offensive yards. The Chiefs also recorded 19 first downs to the Dolphins' 13.

Mahomes completed 29 of 38 passes and posted a 117.9 passer rating. His longest completion went for 30 yards, and Worthy was his most productive target by a wide margin. The receiver caught 11 passes for 155 yards and a touchdown, accounting for nearly half of Kansas City's passing yardage.

"The passing game had a good rhythm, and we were able to keep putting positive plays together," Mahomes said. "Xavier kept finishing his opportunities. When a player is producing like that, you want to keep him involved, but the biggest thing is that we came away with the win."

Worthy's 11 catches were accompanied by contributions throughout the Kansas City lineup. Brashard Smith recorded a one-yard touchdown reception, while Kenneth Walker carried 15 times for 62 yards and a score. Mahomes added 20 rushing yards on seven attempts.

Kansas City reached the red zone four times and scored three touchdowns on those trips. The Chiefs were also 7-for-13 on third down, compared with Miami's 3-for-11 mark. Kansas City did not convert its lone fourth-down attempt, while the Dolphins went 1-for-2.

"I just wanted to stay ready every time the ball came my way," Worthy said. "You don't know how many opportunities you'll get, so the goal is to make each one useful. Eleven catches means there was a lot of trust throughout the game, and I wanted to reward that."

Miami found more production on the ground than through the air. De'Von Achane rushed 15 times for 64 yards and a touchdown, while Malik Willis added 53 yards on eight attempts. Together, they accounted for most of a Dolphins rushing attack that finished with 132 yards.

Willis completed 10 of 19 passes for 102 yards, one touchdown and an 85.8 passer rating. His longest completion covered 18 yards. JuJu Smith-Schuster caught three passes for 40 yards and Miami's receiving touchdown, while Achane added two receptions for 14 yards.

The Dolphins made the game competitive and narrowed Kansas City's advantage, but their offense never matched the Chiefs' overall volume. Miami made two red-zone trips and scored one touchdown from inside the 20.

"We had some production running the ball, but the passing numbers weren't where we wanted them," Willis said. "When the other team is moving the ball consistently, you need to answer with more possessions that end in points. That's the part that's frustrating."

Neither defense recorded an interception, though the teams combined for five sacks. Kansas City finished with three, including one apiece from Chris Jones and Jalyx Hunt. Miami recorded two sacks.

The Chiefs closed the afternoon with advantages in first downs, passing yards, offensive yards, third-down conversions and red-zone touchdowns. Miami finished with 34 more rushing yards, but Kansas City's 317-yard passing output was the most prominent statistical difference in the 24-14 result.
