Charlotte,NC — The big question this week was how would the Carolina Panthers offense respond to a change in the play calling halfway through year…. Well it seemed to work pretty well, with Cam Newton putting up his best numbers on the season so far , 23/29 244 yards 2 touchdowns 1 interception for a QBR of 110.3 Cam also had key runs in 4th quarter to help run down the clock to secure the 10-17 win against the Miami Dolphins.
Greg Olsen continues to show why he is a top tight end as he leads the team in yards he hauled in 7 catches for 88 yards and only his second one on the year. Christian McCaffrey who didn’t run the ball particularly well turning 7 carries into an abysmal 14 yards, but showed why the Panthers drafted him so early by adding to 8 catches for 49 yards with 46 of those yards coming after the catch, he also leads the team in receptions and is on his way to 1,000 yards on the year, right now he sits at 812.
With that being said…… it wasn’t all candy canes and gum drops, the offense struggled to move the ball and failed to score for the entire second half and let Miami back into the game. “Ya, we were rolling but Miami came out and made some great adjustments on the defensive side of the ball and gave our offense some trouble, but like I said, we’re a complete team and our defense kept them to one touchdown and a field goal only” Coach Miller said about the second half struggles.
It looks like the coaching staff has found ways to get the ball to the top play makers in key situations. This was only the first week too, couple weeks down the road I fully expect this team to be averaging close to 30 points a game. They should have an easy match-up against the 1-9 New York Jets, who rank in the bottom half in every defensive category.
