New Orleans, LA - Kyler Murray threw four touchdown passes, Jordan Mason rushed for 189 yards and the Minnesota Vikings defeated the New Orleans Saints 30-24 in Week 5, extending New Orleans' winless start to five games.

Minnesota finished with 517 offensive yards and showed balance across the box score, recording 254 passing yards and 263 rushing yards. The Vikings also collected 26 first downs, more than twice the Saints' total of 11, in their second consecutive victory.

Murray completed 20 of 36 passes for 283 yards with four touchdowns and one interception, earning a 106.5 passer rating. His longest completion covered 65 yards. Mason complemented that production with 189 yards on 26 carries, including a long run of 56 yards, and also caught a 41-yard touchdown pass.

"There was production in both parts of the offense, and that gives everybody confidence," Murray said. "We still left ourselves some things to clean up, but putting 30 points on the board and getting the result is what we came here to do."

Jordan Addison caught three passes for 81 yards and a touchdown, with a 65-yard reception highlighting his afternoon. Justin Jefferson added four receptions for 56 yards and a score. Together with Mason's receiving touchdown, they gave Murray three named scoring targets in a four-touchdown passing performance.

Mason's work as a runner formed the larger share of Minnesota's 263-yard rushing total. He averaged more than seven yards per carry while handling 26 attempts, giving the Vikings one of the game's two major individual rushing performances.

"You want to be dependable every time you get the ball," Mason said. "The carries were there, and I wanted to keep getting positive yards. Being able to contribute in the passing game, too, made it a good day, but the win is the part that matters."

The Vikings' overall yardage did not come with consistent conversion efficiency. Minnesota went 3-for-12 on third down and 2-for-4 on fourth down. Across six red-zone trips, the Vikings recorded two touchdowns and one field goal.

New Orleans produced 310 offensive yards, with most of that total coming from a rushing attack led by Travis Etienne Jr. Etienne ran for 202 yards and two touchdowns on only 17 carries, including a 69-yard run. He accounted for 202 of the Saints' 240 rushing yards and added three catches for 28 yards.

"You look at the rushing numbers and there are positives, but the score is what stays with you," Etienne said. "We needed the whole result, not just a good number in one area. That's the frustrating part."

The Saints were limited to 70 passing yards as a team. Spencer Rattler completed 12 of 20 passes for 101 yards with one interception, finishing with a 52.2 passer rating. He also rushed twice for 38 yards. New Orleans converted 1 of 8 third downs, went 0-for-1 on fourth down and recorded one touchdown and one field goal across five red-zone trips.

Both defenses registered an interception. Minnesota recorded four sacks, while New Orleans finished with three. Murray and Rattler each threw one interception, but their passing production differed sharply: Murray had four touchdown passes and 283 yards, while Rattler finished with 101 yards and no verified touchdown total in the supplied statistics.

The Saints entered Week 5 at 0-4 and searching for their first victory. Despite Etienne's 202-yard rushing performance and two touchdowns, the six-point loss left New Orleans at 0-5.

Up Next

New Orleans will travel to face the New York Giants in Week 6 while still seeking its first win. Minnesota will next be home against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7, looking to follow up its 30-24 victory.
