Miami Gardens, FL - Corey Kiner rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns, and New England recorded six sacks and four interceptions as the Patriots defeated the Miami Dolphins 37-14 in Week 8.
New England arrived with six consecutive victories and extended that streak to seven by building an advantage and steadily creating separation. The Patriots improved to 7-1, continuing a run that began after their only loss of the season.
Kiner supplied the most productive individual performance for New England. He carried 17 times, the most rushing attempts in the game, and averaged nearly 6.5 yards per carry. His 34-yard run was also the game's longest, and his three rushing scores gave the Patriots a reliable source of points in a game that otherwise featured uneven passing numbers and heavy pressure from both defenses.
"I tried to run with purpose every time I got the ball," Kiner said. "There were some tough yards in there, but once you get into a rhythm, you want to keep attacking and finish the run the right way. Scoring three times is great, but the win and the streak are what stand out."
The Patriots finished with 132 rushing yards and 331 offensive yards overall. Their production was not overwhelming possession by possession - New England converted 5 of 16 third downs and recorded 14 first downs - but the offense continued to put points on the board as the margin grew.
Behren Morton completed 17 of 30 passes for 178 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Tanner Arkin caught the touchdown pass, while Kyle Williams led New England with 62 receiving yards on four receptions. Morton's longest completion covered 28 yards.
"We weren't as clean as we want to be, and there are definitely things to correct," Morton said. "But we stayed composed as the game developed. Corey was running the ball well, and we kept working until we had the result we wanted."
The defensive numbers provided the sharpest contrast between the teams. New England intercepted Miami four times while allowing 344 offensive yards, 13 more than the Patriots produced. The Dolphins also finished with more passing yards, 250 to 199, but their quarterbacks combined for four interceptions.
Kyle McCord went 18 of 29 for 198 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Malik Willis added 52 passing yards but was intercepted twice while completing 6 of 15 attempts. The Patriots did not need to dominate the yardage column to finish with a 23-point victory.
Chris Bell was Miami's leading receiver and the game leader with 84 yards. He caught five passes, scored a touchdown and produced the game's longest reception at 48 yards. Caleb Douglas added six catches for 65 yards, giving the Dolphins two productive targets even as the offense struggled to match New England on the scoreboard.
"We moved the ball in stretches, but putting it at risk four times is too much," McCord said. "The yardage doesn't mean much when the score looks like that. We have to be more disciplined with the football and make sure our possessions end better."
Miami's defense generated pressure of its own, matching New England with six sacks and adding an interception. Even so, the Patriots continued to widen the gap as the game progressed. Miami converted 4 of 14 third downs and 2 of 5 fourth downs, while its only red-zone trip ended with a touchdown.
New England reached the red zone four times, recording one touchdown and one field goal on those possessions. The Patriots' 37 points therefore came in a game where their offense did not consistently sustain long stretches of conventional efficiency. Instead, Kiner's three-touchdown outing, Morton's scoring pass and a defense that accumulated sacks and interceptions defined the performance.
For Miami, the statistical picture was frustrating: more offensive yards, the game-high passer and receiver, and six defensive sacks still accompanied a lopsided defeat. The Dolphins fell to 2-5, while the Patriots left Miami Gardens with a seventh consecutive victory and sole possession of a 7-1 record.
