Jonathan Taylor rushes for 115 yards as Indianapolis Colts top Baltimore Ravens 23-16 in Week 1

Indianapolis, IN - Jonathan Taylor rushed for 115 yards, Kareem Hunt scored twice on the ground and the Indianapolis Colts opened Week 1 with a 23-16 victory over the Baltimore Ravens.

Indianapolis gradually established an advantage and spent much of the game protecting it as Baltimore applied pressure without completely erasing the margin. The Ravens produced enough explosive offense to remain a threat, but the Colts made more consistent progress and finished with substantial advantages in first downs, rushing yards and offensive yards.

The clearest statistical separation came in Indianapolis' ability to extend its opportunities. The Colts converted 11 of 16 third downs and went 1-for-1 on fourth down. Baltimore finished 1-for-8 on third down and failed on its only fourth-down attempt. Indianapolis recorded 22 first downs, twice the Ravens' total of 11.

Daniel Jones completed 24 of 38 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown, finishing with an 88.7 passer rating. Indianapolis did not rely on one narrow source of production, pairing Jones' passing total with 179 rushing yards in a balanced 409-yard offensive performance.

"We were able to keep coming back to the huddle with another chance to move the ball," Jones said. "Converting 11 third downs says a lot about the consistency we had. There are still details to clean up, but this is the result we wanted to start with."

Taylor carried 16 times and averaged more than seven yards per attempt, with a long run of 23 yards. Hunt added 42 yards on 11 carries and accounted for two of Indianapolis' three red-zone touchdowns. The Colts reached the red zone five times overall, scoring three touchdowns and one field goal on those trips.

"You want to stay patient and make every carry count," Taylor said. "There were opportunities to get into space, and I thought we kept giving the offense different ways to move. Starting the season with a win is what matters."

Jones also received steady production from his receivers. Alec Pierce caught five passes for 79 yards and a touchdown, while Keenan Allen supplied seven receptions for 63 yards. Josh Downs added 37 yards on two catches, including a 30-yard reception that stood as Indianapolis' longest completion.

Baltimore's passing game was efficient even though the Ravens finished with 282 offensive yards. Lamar Jackson completed 17 of 22 attempts for 197 yards and a touchdown, posting a 118.9 passer rating without throwing an interception. His longest completion covered 62 yards.

Ja'Kobi Lane provided the Ravens' touchdown reception and finished with 65 yards on only two catches. One of those receptions went for 62 yards, accounting for most of his production and giving Baltimore its longest gain through the air. Derrick Henry led the Ravens' running game with 82 yards on 15 carries, but Baltimore's team rushing total stopped at 85 yards.

"There were good things in the passing game, but we didn't sustain enough overall," Jackson said. "One conversion on third down isn't where we want to be. We had some production and took care of the ball through the air, but the final score is the part that stays with you."

The Indianapolis defense recorded four sacks without intercepting a pass. Baltimore also finished without an interception and registered one sack. Those pressure totals accompanied a game in which Jackson was highly efficient when he delivered the football, but the Ravens ran only two more times with him and received seven rushing yards from their quarterback.

Indianapolis' broader statistical profile remained the defining feature of the afternoon. The Colts outgained the Ravens 409-282 in offensive yards, finished with 94 more rushing yards and recorded 11 additional first downs. Baltimore's 197 passing yards were 33 fewer than Indianapolis' total, despite Jackson completing nearly 77 percent of his throws.

Hunt said his two touchdowns reflected the importance of finishing Indianapolis' opportunities near the goal line.

"Getting in twice feels good, but the whole picture is the win," Hunt said. "We had five trips down there and scored three touchdowns. That gives us something positive to build from, and now the standard is to become even more efficient."

The seven-point margin left Baltimore within one score at the end, but Indianapolis emerged from the exchanges with the steadier advantage. Taylor's 100-yard rushing performance, Hunt's two touchdowns and an 11-for-16 showing on third down accompanied a 23-16 Colts victory to open Week 1.
