Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals beat Houston Texans 29-17 in Week 2

Houston, TX - Joe Burrow delivered through the air and on the ground as the Cincinnati Bengals built an advantage, answered Houston's pressure and created separation in a 29-17 Week 2 victory over the Texans.

Burrow completed 20 of 28 passes for 205 yards and a touchdown, finishing with a 104.0 passer rating. He also carried eight times for 58 yards, giving Cincinnati another productive option in a rushing attack that finished with 186 yards.

The Bengals did not need a huge passing total to move the ball. They produced 391 offensive yards and 18 first downs, spreading their work across a balanced group of contributors while protecting the advantage they established. Houston stayed competitive and narrowed the margin at points, but Cincinnati ultimately finished with a 12-point win rather than leaving the outcome to a final possession.

"There were different ways for us to move the ball, and that's what you want," Burrow said. "We didn't have to force everything into one part of the offense. We stayed patient, took what was available and finished with the result we came for."

Chase Brown led Cincinnati's running backs with 89 yards on 15 carries, including a longest rush of 25 yards. Burrow also had a 25-yard run, and the Bengals finished with 51 more rushing yards than Houston.

In the passing game, Tee Higgins paced Cincinnati with seven receptions for 71 yards. Mike Gesicki added six catches for 69 yards, while Ja'Marr Chase caught five passes for 60 yards and scored the Bengals' receiving touchdown. Burrow's longest completion went for 25 yards.

"The opportunities were spread around, and everybody stayed involved," Chase said. "When the ball came my way, I wanted to be efficient with it. Getting into the end zone was good, but the most important number is the one on the scoreboard."

The clearest statistical contrast came inside the red zone. Cincinnati scored two touchdowns on three trips and did not record a red-zone field goal. Houston made four visits, scoring one touchdown and one field goal. The Texans accumulated 378 offensive yards, only 13 fewer than the Bengals, but finished with 17 points.

C.J. Stroud completed 23 of 38 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown, posting an 87.9 passer rating. His longest completion covered 53 yards. Kayshon Boutte finished with four receptions for 64 yards and Houston's receiving touchdown, while Tank Dell caught seven passes for 51 yards.

Houston also received 90 rushing yards from David Montgomery on 17 attempts. The Texans totaled 135 yards on the ground and recorded 15 first downs, providing enough offense to apply pressure as Cincinnati worked to maintain its advantage.

"We moved it and had some productive stretches, but the points have to match the opportunities," Stroud said. "Four trips into the red zone should leave us feeling better than this. That's the part that's frustrating when you look at the final score."

The Texans were more successful on third down, converting 7 of 16 attempts compared with Cincinnati's 4-for-12 showing. Both teams also extended possessions on fourth down: Houston went 4-for-6, while Cincinnati converted 2 of 4 tries.

Neither defense recorded an interception. Houston finished with two sacks, and Cincinnati had one. Despite the lack of interceptions and the Texans' slight advantage in passing yards, the Bengals emerged with the broader offensive edge and the better red-zone touchdown rate.

Cincinnati's statistical profile reflected an offense that could distribute the ball without asking one receiver or runner to carry the entire workload. Three Bengals pass catchers topped 60 receiving yards, Brown approached 90 on the ground, and Burrow supplemented an efficient passing line with 58 rushing yards. The result was a Week 2 road victory in Houston.
