Bo Nix throws 3 TDs as Denver Broncos beat Jacksonville Jaguars 28-17 in Week 2

Denver, CO - Bo Nix supplied the passing production, Jaylen Waddle delivered the biggest receiving performance of the game and the Denver Broncos created enough separation to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars 28-17 in Week 2.

Nix completed 21 of 41 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns, finishing with a 101.0 passer rating. Waddle caught seven passes for 148 yards and two scores, accounting for nearly half of Denver’s passing yardage while recording a 70-yard reception.

The Broncos built an advantage, answered Jacksonville’s attempts to apply pressure and avoided allowing the game to develop into a one-possession finish. Jacksonville remained competitive with a balanced offensive total, but Denver maintained control of the margin and finished with an 11-point victory.

"We didn’t hit everything, but we stayed aggressive and gave ourselves chances to make something happen," Nix said. "Jaylen gave us a big presence in the passing game, and the offense kept working until we had the result we wanted."

Denver finished with 396 offensive yards, including 314 through the air. Waddle was the central figure in that production, consistently giving the Broncos an explosive element against a Jacksonville defense that recorded two sacks but no interceptions.

"When the ball came my way, I wanted to turn it into something positive," Waddle said. "There were opportunities for us to stretch the field, and I just tried to be ready for each one."

Adam Trautman caught Denver’s other touchdown pass, finishing with two receptions for 26 yards. J.K. Dobbins handled most of the work on the ground, rushing 21 times for 80 yards and a touchdown. His longest run covered 28 yards.

The contrast near the goal line was notable. Denver reached the red zone three times and scored two touchdowns, while Jacksonville did not score on its only red-zone trip. The Broncos also converted their only fourth-down attempt; the Jaguars went 0-for-1.

Jacksonville produced 366 offensive yards, only 30 fewer than Denver, and held a sizable advantage on the ground. The Jaguars rushed for 181 yards compared with the Broncos’ 82, with Trevor Lawrence providing much of that production himself.

Lawrence ran eight times for 84 yards and a touchdown, including a 53-yard rush. Joe Mixon added 55 yards on 13 carries, giving Jacksonville another productive option in a rushing attack that averaged better than five yards per attempt.

Through the air, however, the Jaguars never matched Denver’s output. Lawrence completed 22 of 37 passes for 185 yards with one touchdown and one interception, posting a 70.2 passer rating. His longest completion went for 22 yards. Brian Thomas Jr caught four passes for 30 yards and a touchdown.

"There were some things in the run game that gave us opportunities, but 17 points wasn’t enough," Lawrence said. "I have to be better with the football and we have to turn more of our possessions into points. That’s the part that is frustrating."

Neither offense consistently extended possessions on third down. Jacksonville converted 5 of 16 attempts, while Denver finished 5 of 15. The Jaguars recorded 12 first downs to the Broncos’ 15, another relatively narrow difference in a game where Denver’s larger statistical edges came in passing production and red-zone results.

Denver’s defense finished with two sacks and an interception. Jacksonville also recorded two sacks, but the Jaguars did not intercept Nix. The teams were close in overall offensive yardage, yet the Broncos finished with four touchdowns: three through Nix’s passing and one on Dobbins’ run. Jacksonville’s touchdowns came from Lawrence’s rushing production and Thomas’ work as a receiver.

For Denver, the combination of a 300-yard passing day, three touchdown passes and Waddle’s 148 receiving yards provided the defining statistical profile of the Week 2 result. The Broncos finished the afternoon with the 28-17 victory at home.
