Detroit, MI - Jared Goff completed 20 of 24 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns, and the Detroit Lions defeated the Chicago Bears 28-14 in Week 12.
Goff finished with a 135.5 passer rating and no interceptions, giving Detroit the cleaner quarterback performance in a game that featured a clear divide in passing efficiency. Caleb Williams threw two touchdown passes for Chicago, but he completed 12 of 25 attempts for 126 yards and was intercepted twice. His passer rating was 56.4.
Detroit finished with 312 offensive yards, including 231 through the air, compared with Chicago's 242 offensive yards and 115 passing yards. The Lions also recorded 16 first downs to the Bears' 14 and converted 6 of 12 third downs. Chicago went 3-for-11 in the same category.
"The completion percentage is the part I feel best about," Goff said. "We were accurate, we took care of the ball in the passing game, and we kept giving ourselves opportunities to run the offense. There are always things to clean up, but that's a good foundation."
The turnover column supplied another sharp contrast. Roger McCreary intercepted Williams and returned the ball 59 yards while also finishing with three pass deflections. Kerby Joseph recorded Detroit's other interception and added a pass deflection. Chicago did not intercept Goff.
Those defensive numbers accompanied an offense that spread its production across several contributors. Sam LaPorta led Detroit with six receptions and 69 yards, including a 32-yard catch. Sione Vaki added three receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown, highlighted by a 34-yard catch. On the ground, Jahmyr Gibbs carried 15 times for 51 yards and scored a rushing touchdown.
Detroit did not post the stronger rushing total overall. Chicago finished with 127 rushing yards to the Lions' 81, and D'Andre Swift produced the game high with 89 yards on a game-most 21 attempts. Swift also caught four passes for 18 yards, accounting for 107 yards from scrimmage.
The Bears' biggest receiving production came from Rome Odunze, who caught three passes for a game-high 70 yards and a touchdown. His 56-yard reception was the longest catch of the game and matched Williams' longest completion. Chicago's passing game otherwise finished with fewer completions, fewer yards and two more interceptions than Detroit's.
"The two touchdowns don't cancel out the two interceptions," Williams said. "I have to be more consistent with the football. Completing 12 out of 25 isn't where I want to be, and we didn't do enough on third down. That's the part I'm looking at."
Neither team was perfect on fourth down. Chicago converted 2 of 4 attempts, while Detroit finished 1-for-3. The Lions reached the red zone five times and scored two touchdowns on those trips; the Bears had two red-zone possessions and came away with one touchdown. Neither side recorded a red-zone field goal.
The statistical picture ultimately favored Detroit in several of the game's most prominent categories: passing yards, offensive yards, third-down conversions and interceptions. Goff's 20 completions came on one fewer attempt than Williams needed for 12, while the Lions' defense finished with both takeaways recorded in the game.
Chicago left Detroit with a productive rushing performance from Swift and a game-high receiving total from Odunze, but the Bears also finished with a 14-point defeat. The Lions closed Week 12 with a 28-14 victory built around an efficient passing line, 312 offensive yards and a defense that intercepted two passes.
