East Rutherford, NJ - Antonio Gibson scored three touchdowns, Deshaun Watson produced one through the air and another on the ground, and the New York Jets defeated the Buffalo Bills 28-16 in Week 10.
The Jets earned their third consecutive victory and improved to 5-5 despite finishing behind Buffalo in several major offensive categories. The Bills recorded 20 first downs to New York's 15, gained 332 offensive yards to the Jets' 276 and converted seven of 14 third downs. New York went 3-for-8 in the same category.
Those differences did not keep the Jets from finishing with a 12-point win. Gibson gave New York production as both a runner and receiver, rushing 12 times for 54 yards and two touchdowns while catching two passes for 39 yards and another score. His 36-yard reception was the longest catch of the game.
"When I got opportunities, I wanted to finish with something positive," Gibson said. "Whether it was running the ball or catching it, the goal was to give the offense useful yards. Getting into the end zone three times makes it a good day, especially when it comes with a win."
Watson complemented Gibson with an efficient performance. He completed 11 of 18 passes for 164 yards and a touchdown, posting a 109.4 passer rating. He also led the Jets with a game-high 64 rushing yards on eight attempts, including a 30-yard run, and scored once on the ground.
New York finished with 134 rushing yards between Watson, Gibson and the rest of the offense. The quarterback and running back combined for 118 of that total and all three of the Jets' rushing touchdowns.
"I liked being able to contribute in both parts of the offense," Watson said. "The passing numbers weren't about throwing it all over the field. It was about being efficient, taking care of the football and doing enough with the opportunities we had."
Kenyon Sadiq supplied the Jets' most productive receiving line, catching five passes for a game-high 80 yards. Gibson added the touchdown reception, giving Watson a passer rating just three-tenths of a point below Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen despite attempting 17 fewer passes.
Allen completed 27 of 35 throws for a game-high 208 yards, two touchdowns and a 110.1 rating. Buffalo did not throw an interception, and Allen spread his scoring passes to Joshua Palmer and Keon Coleman. Palmer finished with three catches for 31 yards, while Coleman caught two passes for 13 yards.
The Bills also held a narrow advantage on the ground, rushing for 145 yards compared with New York's 134. Ty Johnson led Buffalo with 47 yards on only two carries, including a 28-yard run. James Cook III handled a game-high 18 rushing attempts but finished with 38 yards. Cook was more productive as a receiver, leading the Bills with six catches and a team-high 52 yards.
Buffalo's statistical advantages extended beyond total yardage. The Bills converted two of their four fourth-down attempts and reached the red zone four times, coming away with two touchdowns and a field goal. New York also made four red-zone trips, scoring two touchdowns without a field goal.
Neither defense recorded an interception. Buffalo produced three sacks, while New York finished with two. The absence of takeaways left the game's most striking contrast on the offensive side: Buffalo accumulated 56 more offensive yards and five more first downs, but the Jets owned the 28-16 final score.
"We finished with yardage and first downs, but the scoreboard is what matters," Allen said. "Sixteen points wasn't enough today. We have to take the things we did well and be more productive with them."
The loss dropped Buffalo to 1-8 and ended the momentum of its first win, while New York reached .500 by extending its winning streak to three games. For the Jets, Gibson's three-touchdown outing and Watson's dual-threat production provided the individual highlights of a victory that continued their recent rise.
