Geno Smith throws three TDs as New York Jets beat Green Bay Packers 37-17 in Week 2

East Rutherford, NJ - Geno Smith attacked Green Bay with an explosive passing performance, throwing three touchdown passes as the New York Jets defeated the Green Bay Packers 37-17 in Week 2.

Smith completed 15 of 30 passes for 327 yards, finishing with a 108.6 passer rating despite throwing one interception. New York built an advantage, answered Green Bay’s attempts to respond and steadily created separation on the way to a 20-point victory.

Garrett Wilson was at the center of the Jets’ biggest offensive numbers. He caught six passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns, with his longest reception covering 63 yards. Omar Cooper Jr. provided another downfield threat, collecting four receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown while posting a long of 62 yards.

"We were willing to stay aggressive and give our guys opportunities," Smith said. "Garrett and Omar gave us a lot with the ball in their hands. There are still throws I want back, but putting 37 points up gives us something good to build from."

The Jets finished with 477 offensive yards, including 327 through the air and 150 on the ground. Breece Hall supplied 103 rushing yards on 18 carries, reaching the 100-yard mark with a long run of 21 yards. Antonio Gibson added 41 yards on 11 attempts and scored a rushing touchdown.

That production gave New York multiple ways to challenge the Packers as the game developed. The Jets recorded 17 first downs and continued to apply pressure after establishing their advantage. Their four touchdowns were split between Wilson’s two scoring catches, Cooper’s touchdown reception and Gibson’s rushing score.

"It felt like there was room for everybody to contribute," Hall said. "The passing game was creating big gains, and we wanted to stay productive whenever the ball came to us on the ground. Getting over 100 is nice, but the score is the part you remember."

Green Bay generated 302 offensive yards but had difficulty sustaining its work across the game. Jordan Love completed 20 of 34 passes for 228 yards and one touchdown, good for an 88.8 passer rating. He also ran for a touchdown, accounting for both of the Packers’ trips to the end zone.

Matthew Golden delivered Green Bay’s most productive receiving line with nine catches for 122 yards and a touchdown. His longest reception went for 37 yards, which also stood as Love’s longest completion. Josh Jacobs carried 15 times for 70 yards and produced a 26-yard run, but the Packers finished with 74 rushing yards as a team.

"We had some good individual production, but we didn’t stay on the field enough," Love said. "One conversion on third down is not where we need to be. We have to give ourselves more chances to finish possessions and put points up."

Third down was Green Bay’s sharpest efficiency problem. The Packers converted only 1 of 13 attempts, compared with a 4-for-11 performance by the Jets. Green Bay did go 2-for-3 on fourth down, but its offense ended the afternoon with 11 first downs, six fewer than New York.

The red-zone totals were more compact than the final score. Green Bay made three trips inside the 20 and came away with one touchdown and one field goal. New York reached the red zone twice, also recording one touchdown and one field goal on those opportunities.

Both defenses registered three sacks. The game’s lone interception belonged to Green Bay safety Xavier McKinney, who returned Smith’s interception 14 yards. New York did not force Love into an interception, but the Jets still held the Packers to 17 points while completing their gradual pull-away at home.

Wilson said the Jets’ passing totals reflected a willingness to keep searching for openings rather than settling into a conservative approach.

"When the ball came my way, I wanted to turn the opportunity into something for the offense," Wilson said. "We were able to connect on some bigger gains, and Geno kept giving us chances. A game like this shows what the group can produce."

New York left Week 2 with a 175-yard advantage in offensive production and the game’s top performances in passing, rushing and receiving. Smith exceeded 300 passing yards, Hall surpassed 100 on the ground and Wilson approached 200 through the air as the Jets completed a convincing 37-17 result.
