Caleb Williams throws 5 TDs as Chicago Bears rout Minnesota Vikings 65-34 in Week 2

Chicago, IL - Caleb Williams completed 18 of 22 passes for 383 yards and five touchdowns, posting a 158.3 passer rating as the Chicago Bears defeated the Minnesota Vikings 65-34 in Week 2.

Williams' production highlighted a Chicago offense that finished with 518 offensive yards, including 383 through the air. The Bears recorded 21 first downs and averaged more than 21 yards per completion from Williams, whose longest completion covered 64 yards.

The passing production was distributed across several playmakers. Luther Burden III caught five passes for 140 yards and a touchdown, giving Chicago its leading receiving total. Zavion Thomas added three receptions for 83 yards and a score, with his 64-yard reception standing as his longest of the game.

D'Andre Swift contributed in both phases. He rushed 18 times for 116 yards and a touchdown, including a 51-yard run, while also catching three passes for 69 yards and another score. His longest reception went for 60 yards.

"I wanted to be decisive and give our guys a chance to do something with the football," Williams said. "When you finish with five touchdown passes and only four incompletions, there's a lot to like about the efficiency. We had several guys producing, and that's what stands out to me."

Chicago's numbers extended beyond its passing output. The Bears gained 135 rushing yards and converted three of six third-down attempts. They made 11 trips to the red zone, finishing those possessions with two touchdowns and three field goals.

The final margin was substantial, but Minnesota produced 434 offensive yards and registered five more first downs than Chicago. The Vikings finished with 26 first downs, 247 team passing yards and 187 rushing yards. They converted five of 11 third downs and one of two fourth-down attempts.

Turnovers provided one of the clearest statistical differences between the teams. Chicago's defense recorded three interceptions and three sacks. Xavier Woods accounted for one of those interceptions and returned it 92 yards while also registering a pass deflection.

Kyler Murray completed 21 of 38 passes for 260 yards and three touchdowns, but he was also intercepted three times and finished with a 70.0 passer rating. His longest completion went for 46 yards.

"Three interceptions is too many, and that's the part of my line I'm looking at first," Murray said. "We had 26 first downs and put up yards, so there was production. But losing by that margin makes it clear that the good numbers weren't enough."

Minnesota had productive options on the ground. Aaron Jones Sr rushed eight times for 76 yards and a touchdown, averaging 9.5 yards per carry with a long run of 35 yards. Jordan Mason added 65 yards and a touchdown on 13 attempts. Together, they accounted for 141 of the Vikings' 187 rushing yards.

Both backs also contributed as receivers. Jones caught five passes for 41 yards and a touchdown, while Mason finished with four receptions for 36 yards and a score. Jordan Addison supplied Minnesota's leading receiving total with four catches for 82 yards and a touchdown. His longest reception covered 46 yards.

The Vikings reached the red zone six times, scoring three touchdowns without a field goal on those trips. Their ability to accumulate first downs, rushing yards and red-zone opportunities gave them several notable offensive totals, but the scoreboard remained the overriding measure: Chicago finished with 31 more points.

"There were opportunities for me in the running game and the passing game, and I wanted to make every touch count," Swift said. "The explosive gains are good, but the best part is seeing how much production we had across the offense. Caleb was accurate, the receivers put up numbers and we finished with a big result."

Williams' five-touchdown performance, Chicago's 518 offensive yards and the defense's three interceptions defined the statistical profile of the Bears' Week 2 victory. Minnesota generated 434 offensive yards of its own, but Chicago left with a 65-34 win.
