Pittsburgh, PA - Daniel Jones threw three touchdown passes, including the game-winner to Keenan Allen with 2 seconds remaining, as the Indianapolis Colts edged the Pittsburgh Steelers 34-31 in a dramatic Week 5 finish.
The Colts trailed 31-27 after Chris Boswell drilled a 22-yard field goal with 2:24 left in the fourth quarter, but Jones delivered under pressure on the final drive. Indianapolis converted a fourth-and-4 with 45 seconds remaining, then Jones broke free for a 17-yard run on fourth-and-8 with 17 seconds left to keep the possession alive. Five plays later, he found Allen on a 6-yard touchdown pass with 2 seconds on the clock to seal the victory.
Both teams entered the game at 1-3 after losing three straight, adding extra weight to a matchup that came down to the final snap. Indianapolis emerged with the win despite Pittsburgh finishing with more offensive yards and producing one of the day's biggest rushing performances.
Jones completed 24 of 36 passes for 216 yards and three touchdowns, finishing with a 110.4 passer rating. His scoring passes went to Alec Pierce, Josh Downs and Allen, with Allen's late touchdown delivering the decisive blow.
"They made us earn everything," Jones said. "We were under pressure a lot, but the guys stayed together and kept fighting. On that last drive, the mindset was simple - keep moving, keep converting, and find a way to finish."
Pierce provided Indianapolis' longest touchdown catch, hauling in a 30-yard scoring pass in the first quarter. Downs added a 1-yard touchdown reception late in the second quarter, and Allen finished the comeback with the winning score at the end of regulation.
Indianapolis also received explosive production from Seth McGowan, who rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown on only four carries. His 60-yard scoring run in the first quarter helped the Colts build an early lead, while Jones added 46 rushing yards of his own, including the critical fourth-down scramble on the final possession.
The Colts finished with 326 offensive yards, split evenly between 163 net passing yards and 163 rushing yards. They totaled 20 first downs and went 5-for-14 on third down, but their biggest efficiency came on fourth down, where they converted all three attempts - including two on the game-winning drive.
Pittsburgh finished with 332 total yards, including 227 on the ground. Rico Dowdle carried 18 times for 195 yards and two touchdowns, highlighted by a 54-yard run, while Jaylen Warren added 32 rushing yards. The Steelers also got a 2-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers to Pat Freiermuth and a defensive score on a 20-yard fumble return in the second quarter.
"You put yourself in position to win and it slips away at the end, that's tough," Dowdle said. "We ran the ball really well, and the line gave us a lot to work with. But when they finish that last drive, all you're left with is the loss."
Rodgers completed 12 of 26 passes for 119 yards, one touchdown and one interception, finishing with a 56.4 passer rating. Freiermuth led Pittsburgh's passing attack with four catches for 24 yards and a touchdown, but the Steelers could not close out the final defensive series despite recording seven sacks.
"The run game was there and the defense battled all day," Rodgers said. "But in a one-score game, every series matters, especially late. We didn't get the stop we needed."
Indianapolis' defense recorded two sacks and the game's only interception. Pittsburgh's defense consistently disrupted Jones, but the Colts answered when it mattered most, turning a late four-point deficit into a last-second win.
For Indianapolis, the defining moment came in the final two minutes - a pressure-packed drive kept alive by multiple fourth-down conversions and finished by Jones' touchdown pass to Allen with 2 seconds left. The result snapped the Colts' three-game losing streak, while the Steelers dropped their fourth straight despite Dowdle's 195-yard rushing day.
