Santa Clara, CA — Christmas has come for the San Francisco 49ers and Carolina Panthers. In an unbelievable move, the Panthers are sending Cam Newton to San Francisco. In exchange the 49ers will send QB Jimmy Garoppolo, a 2020 1st rd pick, a 2020 2nd rd pick and a 2020 4th rd pick. Newton has been struggling big time this season, with just 4 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and he has the 5th worst QBR rating in the league at just 53.0.
“We feel Newton gives us the best chance to win. We know he has struggled this season in Carolina, but we felt that he is the best man to take us deep this season. If you look at his numbers from the previous seasons you’ll see a superb quarterback who just needs a change. We thank Jimmy for his time here and wish him the best. Cam will start this week when we take on the [Los Angels] Rams.” said coach Michael Nguyen during the 49ers press conference earlier today.
No official word yet from the Panthers. With their game already played this week, an official statement is expect sometime this weekend.
