SANTA CLARA, CA - What began as a competitive matchup between two playoff contenders quickly turned into a one-sided statement, as the San Francisco 49ers overwhelmed the Tennessee Titans 44-7 on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Levi's Stadium.
San Francisco entered the day at 9-4 and played like a team rounding into postseason form, scoring 44 unanswered points after an early Tennessee touchdown and never allowing the Titans back into the game. Tennessee, which came in at 7-6, struggled to maintain momentum in the wet conditions as turnovers and relentless pressure swung the game firmly in the 49ers' favor.
Titans Strike First, Then Lose Control
Tennessee opened the scoring with a splash play, as Tony Pollard hauled in a 77-yard touchdown pass from Cam Ward early in the first quarter to give the Titans a 7-0 lead. It would be the lone highlight for Brian Callahan's offense.
From that point on, the rain-slicked field belonged entirely to San Francisco. Brock Purdy responded with a steady and efficient performance, throwing three touchdown passes while avoiding costly mistakes. The 49ers scored 24 points in the second quarter alone, turning a close game into a runaway before halftime.
Ground Game Takes Over in the Rain
As the weather worsened, head coach Jeffrey Jarin leaned into a physical approach that Tennessee had no answer for. Christian McCaffrey delivered a dominant rushing performance, ripping off chunk gains and finishing with 230 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including a 91-yard score that broke the game wide open in the third quarter.
San Francisco piled up 246 rushing yards and 524 total yards of offense, controlling time of possession and wearing down a Titans defense that spent most of the afternoon chasing plays.
Defense Slams the Door
While the offense put on a show, the 49ers' defense made sure there was no path back for Tennessee. Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams consistently pressured Cam Ward, forcing hurried throws and mistakes. San Francisco finished with five sacks, three interceptions, and multiple momentum-swinging stops.
Fred Warner added a forced fumble in the second half as the Titans' offense unraveled, unable to sustain drives or capitalize on the few opportunities they had.
Up Next
San Francisco will hit the road in Week 16 for a matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, looking to keep their momentum rolling as the regular season winds down. Tennessee returns home next week to host the Kansas City Chiefs, facing a difficult test as they try to regroup and finish the season strong.
