MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The Minnesota Vikings continued their perfect start to the season with a 55-26 blowout victory over the San Francisco 49ers. J.J. McCarthy led the charge, throwing for 284 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Justin Jefferson showcased his elite playmaking with 191 receiving yards and 3 scores.

The game started with a bang as the 49ers scored first with a 43-yard touchdown from Brock Purdy to George Kittle, but the Vikings responded quickly. Jefferson tied it with a 68-yard TD reception, and after Christian McCaffrey’s 8-yard rushing score evened it at 14-14, Jefferson struck again with a 46-yard touchdown. Minnesota never looked back, extending their lead and dominating the second half with their balanced offensive attack.

Minnesota finished with 603 total yards and held the ball for an impressive 47 minutes, limiting the 49ers’ opportunities. San Francisco accumulated 468 total yards, but three costly turnovers, including a 30-yard pick-six by Mekhi Blackmon, crushed any chance of a comeback. “Those turnovers killed us,” said 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who threw for 267 yards, 2 TDs, and 3 interceptions.

Key Performers

On defense, Andrew Van Ginkel was everywhere, tallying 2.5 sacks as he consistently disrupted Purdy in the backfield. Mekhi Blackmon made a game-changing play with his 30-yard interception return for a touchdown, solidifying the Vikings’ lead.

For the 49ers, Christian McCaffrey impressed with 193 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while George Kittle contributed 86 receiving yards and a score. Ricky Pearsall also added a late touchdown for San Francisco.

Up Next

The 49ers, now 0-2, will head to SoFi Stadium to face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3. Meanwhile, the Vikings, standing at 2-0, will stay home to host the Houston Texans.
