CHICAGO, IL — The Seattle Seahawks finally broke into the win column, securing their first victory of the season with a 23-17 road win over the Chicago Bears in Week 5. Seattle came into the game winless at 0-4, while the Bears, who started the season 2-0, were looking to snap a two-game losing streak. Despite a strong effort from Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze, the Bears fell short as the Seahawks controlled the game with a balanced offensive attack and timely defensive stops.
Seahawks Start Fast, Maintain Control
Seattle wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Kicker Jason Myers drilled a 49-yard field goal to open the scoring, and running back Kenneth Walker III capped off the Seahawks’ second drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. The Bears finally responded just before halftime when Williams connected with D’Andre Swift for a 9-yard touchdown pass, cutting the deficit to 13-7 at the break.
In the second half, the Bears pulled within three after a Cairo Santos field goal, but Seattle quickly answered with another touchdown from Walker, extending their lead to 20-10. Chicago made things interesting late, as Williams found Odunze for an 8-yard score with just over three minutes remaining, pulling the Bears within three. However, Myers delivered the dagger, hitting his third field goal of the night—a 46-yarder—to put the game out of reach and secure Seattle’s first victory.
Balanced Seahawks Offense Steps Up
Quarterback Tanner Pittman put together an efficient performance, completing 17 of 26 passes for 182 yards without turning the ball over. He also added 49 rushing yards, including a key 37-yard scramble that helped set up a score. Walker led the ground game with 66 yards and two touchdowns, while D.K. Metcalf paced the receiving corps with five catches for 111 yards.
Bears’ Late Push Falls Short
Williams played well for Chicago, throwing for 232 yards and two touchdowns on 22-of-36 passing. Odunze had a monster night, hauling in 10 receptions for 136 yards and a touchdown, while Swift contributed both as a rusher and receiver, catching seven passes for 55 yards and a score. However, the Bears’ run game struggled, managing just 37 total rushing yards outside of Williams’ scrambles.
Seattle’s Defense Makes the Difference
While the Seahawks’ offense found its rhythm, their defense stepped up at critical moments. Julian Love and Uchenna Nwosu each had multiple pass deflections, while Boye Mafe and Leonard Williams combined for a key sack in the second half. The secondary held firm in the closing minutes, preventing Williams from leading a potential game-winning drive.
What’s Next?
Seattle (1-4) will look to build on this momentum as they return home to host the Carolina Panthers next week. The Bears (2-3) will try to get back on track when they hit the road to take on the Cincinnati Bengals.
