Foxborough, Massachusetts — It’s only week 1 of the preseason but after a strong showing by 2016 5th round draft pick, Travis Bryan, there are rumors that the coaching staff are leaning towards Bryan over Brady for the starting quarterback role. The rookie was able to lead his team a 31-21 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.
Coach Sean Nguyen hinted a quarterback change for the 2016 season.
Sometimes change is good, especially when it’s necessary. We didn’t win the Superbowl last season, so we obviously have to make adjustments moving forward. Tom Brady is a first ballot Hall of Fame quarterback, don’t get me wrong. However, we’re going to have an evaluation for the starting role this camp. Nothing is guaranteed and my players should know that.
Rookie QB Travis Bryan shined in his NFL debut with a 144.2 passer rating. Bryan tossed three touchdown passes while completing 13/21 for a respectable 61% rate. However, the rookie has work to improve with his pocket presence because Bryan was sacked for three times. The rookie was available to share his thoughts about his debut.
I know it’s just a preseason match, but it was a great victory for the team. I have to know when to just throw the ball away and not take the sack. Negative plays will only hold the team back, so that’s something that I have to improve on. Being a late round draft pick, I feel like I have to prove that I belong here.
Other news:
RB Dion Lewis is injured with a shoulder tear, and will be out for approximately 5 weeks. Lewis ran for a team high 61 yards on 8 attempts, and caught two passes for 18 yards. He averaged 7.6 yards per carry, and also recorded a rushing touchdown.
