GREEN BAY, WI — The snow-covered field at Lambeau set the stage for a gritty Week 12 contest between the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers. The Packers emerged victorious, 17-13, thanks to an early offensive surge and a stout defensive performance.
Green Bay started fast, with Jordan Love connecting on a 62-yard touchdown to Jayden Reed early in the first quarter. Another 4-yard touchdown pass to Dontayvion Wicks gave the Packers a 14-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. From there, both teams struggled offensively, bogged down by the slippery conditions and strong defensive play. Green Bay added a 28-yard field goal just before halftime to take a 17-10 lead.
The 49ers responded with a physical ground game, spearheaded by Elijah Mitchell, who scored their lone touchdown in the first quarter on a 1-yard run. San Francisco’s offense, led by Brock Purdy, managed only field goals the rest of the way. Kicker Jake Moody connected on a 23-yarder late in the second quarter and a 28-yard field goal in the fourth, cutting the Packers’ lead to 17-13.
Both teams traded defensive blows throughout the second half. Brock Purdy threw for 264 yards, but Green Bay’s defense held strong, forcing key stops to stall San Francisco’s drives. Despite San Francisco moving the ball effectively at times, they couldn’t break through for a touchdown in the second half, with the Packers making crucial stands late in the game to secure the victory.
“We knew this would be a physical, cold-weather game, and our defense answered the call,” said Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. “Jordan [Love] made some big throws early, but our defense really stepped up when we needed them most.”
For the Packers, Love finished with 290 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. Jayden Reed had a standout day with 105 yards receiving, while Romeo Doubs added 126 yards of his own.
For the 49ers, Christian McCaffrey led the ground attack with 69 yards rushing, while Brandon Aiyuk posted 99 receiving yards. Purdy was inconsistent, struggling to find the end zone despite passing for 264 yards. “It was tough out there in the snow, but that’s no excuse. We didn’t execute when we had our chances,” Purdy said after the loss.
Key Stats
Green Bay totaled 412 yards of offense compared to San Francisco’s 478, with both teams heavily relying on their defenses. The 49ers converted 47.1% of their third downs, while the Packers only managed 37.5%. Jordan Love completed 19 of 34 passes for 290 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions—his highest number of picks in a game this season. His QBR (67.0) and completion percentage (55.9%) were both season lows, reflecting the tough day he had in the snowy conditions. For the 49ers, Brock Purdy threw for 264 yards and no touchdowns for the second time this season, with the last instance coming in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Rams. However, Purdy has now gone back-to-back weeks without throwing an interception.
Up Next
The Packers will stay at Lambeau Field to take on the Miami Dolphins in Week 13, looking to keep their playoff hopes alive. Meanwhile, the 49ers head to New York for a tough matchup against the Buffalo Bills, needing a win to maintain their playoff positioning in a competitive NFC race. Both teams face crucial games as they look to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
