Indianapolis, IN - The Miami Dolphins arrive at Lucas Oil Stadium with a defense capable of making a difficult stretch even more challenging for the Indianapolis Colts. Miami ranks third in total defense and fourth against the run, presenting a demanding matchup for an Indianapolis team carrying a three-game losing streak into Week 10.

Miami enters at 3-5 after a home victory over Detroit, while Indianapolis is 3-6 following consecutive losses to Minnesota, Jacksonville and Dallas. Both teams are 2-3 over their last five games, but their most recent results point in opposite directions. The Dolphins will try to build on their win, while the Colts look to reverse a slide on their home field.

The clearest strength-on-strength matchup comes when Indianapolis has the ball. The Colts rank 10th in rushing offense at 134.7 yards per game, while the Dolphins allow 104.8 rushing yards per game, fourth in the league. Miami also ranks third in total defense at 334 yards allowed per game, compared with an Indianapolis offense ranked 21st at 362.3 yards per game.

Kareem Hunt enters with 471 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 87 attempts, giving the Colts a productive option against Miami’s front. Daniel Jones has completed 105 of 182 passes for 1,188 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception. Keenan Allen leads Indianapolis’ receiving production with 43 catches for 569 yards and five touchdowns. How consistently that group can move the ball against Miami’s third-ranked total defense will be central to the matchup.

The other side offers a different contrast. Miami ranks 31st in scoring at 19.6 points per game and 28th in total offense at 319.8 yards per game, but Indianapolis ranks 29th in scoring defense, allowing 31 points per game, and 30th in total defense at 384.2 yards allowed. The Colts also rank 32nd against the run, surrendering 185.2 yards per game, creating an opening for a Dolphins rushing offense that ranks 26th at 111.6 yards per game.

Malik Willis has thrown for 1,305 yards and 10 touchdowns with seven interceptions on 107-of-181 passing. Marvin Mims Jr has supplied 25 receptions for 410 yards and four touchdowns, while De’Von Achane has rushed 102 times for 396 yards and three scores. Miami’s challenge is turning those individual contributions into more points against an Indianapolis defense that has struggled to limit yardage and scoring.

The injury reports add significant variables to both offenses. Willis is listed with an abdominal tear, and Achane appears with a foot fracture. Miami center Aaron Brewer is dealing with a torn labrum, while tackles Austin Jackson and Patrick Paul are listed with broken ribs and a broken ankle, respectively. For Indianapolis, Jones is on the report with broken ribs, and Jonathan Taylor is listed with a dislocated hip. Defensive tackle DeForest Buckner also appears with broken ribs. None of those injury listings establishes gameday availability.

Miami also carries favorable history from the teams’ previous meeting, though it came in a different season. The Dolphins defeated the Colts 38-24 in Week 6 of Season 35. Achane was prominent in that game, rushing for 194 yards and two touchdowns while adding 11 receptions for 183 yards and two more scores. That performance does not determine this matchup, but Indianapolis’ current No. 32 run-defense ranking makes the ground game an especially relevant point of emphasis.

The central question is which uneven unit can capitalize. Miami’s offense gets a Colts defense allowing substantial production, while Indianapolis must solve a Dolphins defense ranked near the top of the league in total yards and rushing yards allowed. For the Colts, ending their three-game slide requires finding answers against Miami’s clearest strength. For the Dolphins, sustaining momentum means converting a favorable defensive matchup into enough offensive support.
