SALEM, OR - Former New England Patriots wide receiver Chase Claypool is planning a return to the league, and if his words are any indication, he's coming back with something to prove.
"I am the strongest and fastest I've ever been," Claypool told CBS Sports as part of his offseason comeback push. "I've spent this time getting right mentally, physically, emotionally, and I'm excited to get back to ball."
Claypool last appeared in Season 29 with New England, where he led the team in every major receiving category. He played in all 16 games that year, hauling in 70 receptions for 936 yards and 6 touchdowns while averaging 13.4 yards per catch. Despite his production, the Patriots missed the playoffs at 9-8, and Claypool quietly entered free agency the following offseason.
Over his seven-year league career, Claypool has suited up for five different teams: the Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago Bears, and Patriots. His last season in Pittsburgh showed flashes of dominance, while a breakout campaign in Kansas City during Season 23 produced 8 touchdowns. He later brought steady production to Chicago, where he served as a reliable depth option over two seasons.
In total, Claypool has amassed 3,652 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns on 263 catches. His 13.9 yards per reception and 92.0% catch rate underscore the combination of physicality and efficiency that's defined his game.
Now, entering the offseason in peak condition and with a chip on his shoulder, Claypool is seeking the right opportunity to reignite his career. With teams already reevaluating their depth charts heading into Season 33, the 29-year-old receiver could find himself back in the mix soon.
