Brock Purdy throws 4 TDs as San Francisco 49ers rout Denver Broncos 34-9 in Week 4

Santa Clara, CA - Brock Purdy threw four touchdown passes, Christian McCaffrey rushed for 111 yards and the San Francisco 49ers overwhelmed the Denver Broncos 34-9 in Week 4.

Purdy completed 22 of 29 passes for 238 yards and finished with a 124.7 passer rating. His lone interception was one of the few blemishes on an otherwise highly productive performance for an offense that recorded 376 offensive yards and 22 first downs.

The statistical divide was especially pronounced on the ground. San Francisco rushed for 159 yards, while Denver managed only 16. McCaffrey accounted for the bulk of the 49ers' production with 111 yards on 18 carries, including a 48-yard run. Jordan James added 30 yards on six attempts.

"We had a good balance, and that gives everybody a chance to stay involved," Purdy said. "For me, it was about being accurate, getting the ball to our guys and finishing possessions. There are still things to clean up, but scoring 34 points is something we can build on."

Mike Evans led San Francisco's receivers with five catches for 86 yards and a touchdown, highlighted by a 46-yard reception. Ricky Pearsall caught three passes for 45 yards and a score, while Jake Tonges contributed three receptions for 23 yards and another touchdown. Purdy's four scoring passes came as San Francisco posted touchdowns on four of its five red-zone trips and a field goal on the other.

The 49ers also converted 7 of 12 third downs and both of their fourth-down attempts. Denver finished 1-for-8 on third down and recorded 10 first downs, less than half San Francisco's total.

"You want the run game to be dependable every week," McCaffrey said. "The carries were productive, Jordan gave us good work as well, and we finished with 159 yards as a group. That's the kind of collective number you feel good about."

Denver found most of its offensive production through the passing game. Bo Nix completed 16 of 32 throws for 229 yards with one interception and a 60.5 passer rating. His longest completion went for 49 yards.

Jaylen Waddle was the Broncos' most productive skill player, catching seven passes for 142 yards with a long reception of 49. Courtland Sutton added three catches for 58 yards and had a 44-yard reception. Despite those numbers, Denver finished with 245 offensive yards and did not score on its only red-zone trip.

"There were opportunities in the passing game, but nine points isn't enough," Nix said. "I have to be more consistent with the football, and we have to do a better job sustaining what we're doing. The numbers that matter most are the points and the result."

The Broncos had little room for production on the ground. J.K. Dobbins carried four times for eight yards, while Nix added eight yards on two attempts. No Denver rush went longer than five yards.

Denver's defense produced three sacks and an interception. Patrick Surtain II recorded the pick and returned it 20 yards. San Francisco's defense did not register a sack but finished with one interception of its own.

For Waddle, the 142-yard outing offered an individual bright spot within a difficult team result.

"I want to be available and give the offense something every time the ball comes my way," Waddle said. "There were yards out there for us, but we didn't turn enough of that production into points. That's the frustrating part."

San Francisco finished with advantages of 376-245 in offensive yards, 159-16 in rushing yards and 22-10 in first downs. Combined with Purdy's four touchdown passes and a perfect scoring rate across five red-zone visits, those figures defined a one-sided Week 4 box score.
