BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo Bills have strengthened their defensive line by signing edge rusher Nelson Ceaser. The move came on August 14, with roster space cleared ahead of joint practices and upcoming preseason matchups.

Ceaser's Journey to Buffalo

Ceaser, a 6-foot-3, 254-pound pass rusher, enters his second pro season after an eventful path through the league's ranks. He went undrafted in 2024, signing briefly with Seattle before moving to the spring circuit, where he suited up for both the DC Defenders and San Antonio Brahmas.

College Accolades & On-Field Identity

Ceaser closed his University of Houston career with 101 total tackles, 27.5 tackles for loss, and 17 sacks. A team captain in 2023, he led the Big 12 in sacks (9.5) and sacks per game (0.86), producing at least one sack in seven different games. He also led the team in tackles for loss (13.5) and posted 20 QB hurries his final year.

His disruptive presence earned him First-team All-Big 12 honors, and his 3.0 sacks against Baylor on November 4, 2023, tied for the most by a Big 12 defender that season.

Roster Movement & Outlook

To make room for Ceaser, Buffalo made the following roster moves:

  • Waived/Injured: Wide Receiver Jalen Virgil - a speed threat with past special teams experience.
  • Waived/Injured: Defensive End Justin Hollins - a veteran pass rusher with prior starting experience.

Ceaser will now compete in training camp, likely aiming for a practice squad spot. With his combination of pass-rush production, leadership, and special teams potential, he could earn a role if he translates his college and spring-league success into consistent pressure at this level.

Beyond the Field

Off the field, Ceaser holds a bachelor's degree in integrated studies from the University of Houston. He was a standout athlete at Ridge Point High School in Missouri City, Texas, setting the school's all-time sack record (21.5) and excelling in track and field as a shot put thrower. Passionate about animals, he hopes to one day open a dog shelter.
