CHICAGO, IL - The Pittsburgh Steelers' perfect season came to a sudden and jarring halt Sunday at Soldier Field, as the Chicago Bears unleashed an offensive avalanche to hand the previously unbeaten Steelers a 48-32 loss in a wildly entertaining Week 12 shootout.
Pittsburgh entered the afternoon at 10-0, but Chicago matched them blow for blow early before completely seizing control after halftime behind a relentless passing attack and timely defensive takeaways.
Fast Start Sets the Tone
The game opened at a blistering pace. Aaron Rodgers put the Steelers on the board first with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Warren midway through the opening quarter, but Chicago answered quickly when Caleb Williams hit Rome Odunze for a 1-yard score.
Rodgers struck again just over a minute later, finding Scott Miller on a 57-yard bomb to restore Pittsburgh's lead. Once again, the Bears responded - this time with Colston Loveland hauling in a 27-yard touchdown pass from Williams in the closing seconds of the quarter to send the game into the second tied at 14.
Chicago Closes the Half Strong
Rodgers briefly gave the Steelers momentum early in the second quarter with a 1-yard quarterback sneak, but that would be Pittsburgh's last moment of control before halftime.
Williams went back to work, connecting with Odunze on a 27-yard touchdown to tie the game, then finding Loveland again - this time from 8 yards out with just five seconds remaining in the half. The late score capped a 14-point second quarter for Chicago and sent the Bears into the locker room with a 28-21 advantage.
Third-Quarter Surge Breaks It Open
Chicago wasted no time tightening its grip after the break. Cairo Santos opened the third quarter with a 31-yard field goal, and although Chris Boswell answered for Pittsburgh, the Bears' offense quickly delivered the knockout sequence.
Tyson Bagent stepped in and immediately made an impact, tossing a 32-yard touchdown pass to Odunze before DJ Moore delivered the biggest play of the afternoon - a 72-yard touchdown catch that sent Soldier Field into a frenzy and pushed the Bears' lead to 45-24.
Too Little, Too Late for Pittsburgh
Santos added an 18-yard field goal early in the fourth to extend the margin further, effectively putting the game out of reach. Pittsburgh managed one final highlight when Rodgers connected with Roman Wilson for a 53-yard touchdown and added a successful two-point conversion, but it was merely cosmetic.
The Bears' defense, which intercepted Rodgers four times on the day, slammed the door from there to secure one of the most impressive wins of the season.
Up Next
Chicago will look to carry this momentum into Week 13 when it heads to Philadelphia for a tough road matchup with the Eagles. Meanwhile, the Steelers return home searching for answers after seeing their unbeaten run snapped, and their margin for error disappear as they take on the Buffalo Bills.
