PITTSBURGH, PA — Aaron Rodgers has officially announced that the upcoming Season 33 will be his last in the 2K Online Franchise league. The 41-year-old quarterback, now with the Pittsburgh Steelers, made the announcement during a live appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, saying he's "pretty sure this is it." The statement confirms what many around the league had speculated: Rodgers is preparing to close the book on one of the longest and most decorated careers in league history.
"It just feels like the right time," Rodgers said. "That's why we did a one-year deal. I want to finish this thing off with love and joy-and no regrets."
Rodgers signed with the Steelers this offseason following his release from the New York Jets, where he spent the last three seasons. His final season will be his 24th in the league.
From Green Bay to Greatness
Aaron Rodgers began his journey as the face of the Green Bay Packers. Over the next 12 seasons, he built a Hall of Fame-worthy career in Titletown, becoming one of the most feared and efficient quarterbacks in the league. But tensions behind the scenes began to surface in Season 22. Frustrated with contract negotiations and feeling underappreciated by Packers leadership, Rodgers was traded midseason to the Indianapolis Colts.
He appeared in 11 games with the Colts that year, throwing for 2,884 yards and 19 touchdowns while completing over 68% of his passes. Despite strong numbers, the Colts missed the playoffs, and Rodgers quietly stepped away from the game after the season.
For the next three seasons, Rodgers remained out of football, his future uncertain. Whether it was due to burnout, front office frustration, or a desire to regain control of his narrative, Rodgers did not take another snap until Season 26.
When he returned, it was with a familiar team-Green Bay. Back under center for the Packers, Rodgers looked rejuvenated. And in Season 25, just one year into his comeback, he delivered the ultimate redemption arc by leading the Packers to a 20-6 victory over the New England Patriots in 2K OLF Super Bowl XXVI. Rodgers completed 20 of 31 passes for 153 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in the win, managing the game with poise and earning the one thing that had eluded him for over a decade: a championship ring.
He played one more season in Green Bay before signing with the New York Jets in Season 28. For the past three seasons, Rodgers has served as a veteran anchor for the Jets' offense, starting every game and helping them remain competitive during a transitional era.
Now, in Season 33, Rodgers prepares to close the curtain on a career that was at times polarizing but undeniably legendary.
A Career by the Numbers
Rodgers' statistical résumé is staggering. Over 288 games played, he has completed 5,594 passes on 8,368 attempts (66.8%), throwing for 69,681 yards and 453 touchdowns. He holds a career passer rating of 95.5 and has averaged 8.5 yards per attempt across more than two decades of elite play.
His peak came in Season 27 with the Jets, when he threw for 4,934 yards and 39 touchdowns while completing 71.6% of his passes-a season many still consider the gold standard for quarterback efficiency in the modern era.
Rodgers has also weathered his share of adversity. He's been sacked 701 times and thrown 316 interceptions, but those numbers pale in comparison to the consistency, leadership, and clutch execution he delivered across three different franchises.
Legacy Secured
Rodgers departs the game with more than just numbers. His leadership transformed the Packers into perennial contenders. He gave Jets fans hope in a time of transition. He delivered a championship, multiple deep playoff runs, and perhaps most notably, he never stopped competing.
His 2K Online Franchise journey will be remembered for its longevity, its resilience, and its defining moments. Whether it was firing darts downfield at Lambeau, orchestrating comebacks in Indy, or giving the Jets a veteran presence they sorely needed, Rodgers brought the same fire to every game.
Now, with one season left, Rodgers will try to do what few can-go out on his own terms.
Up Next
The Steelers open Season 33 at home against the New York Jets. For Rodgers, it'll be the beginning of the end-and perhaps the first step toward one final playoff run.
Regardless of how it ends, the 2K Online Franchise will never forget No. 12.
