Cleveland, OH — The Cleveland Browns defeat the Arizona Cardinals 35-21. The Browns offense excelled as Baker Mayfield had a quarterback rating of 105.3 on 12 of 18 attempts for a sub-par 217 passing yards. Mayfield scored three times as he threw for two touchdowns and rushed for one. Other than Mayfield, the stars on offense plenty. In the running game, the Browns rushed for a total of 182 yards and scored three times in the red zone. LeGarrette Blount led all Brown running backs with 85 rushing yards and an average of 7.1 yards per carry. Behind Blount was Duke Johnson Jr. as he racked up 71 yards and two touchdowns. On the receiving end, wide receivers Jarvis Landry and Sherman Betts had a field day as Landry hit the century mark with 106 yards on four receptions with two touchdowns. Betts matched Landry with four receptions on a total of 77 yards receiving.

There is not much to highlight on the defensive end as the Browns once again allowed a rushing opponent to hit 100 yards. Cardinals running back David Johnson ran for 108 yards on 14 attempts; one of them being highlighted by a monster run where Johnson burned the Browns’ defense for 52 yards. The pass coverage was loose once again as Sam Bradford passed for 312 yards and connected on 20 of 31 attempts. Bradford was not sacked but was intercepted once by Jamie Collins Sr.

Coach Farias seem pleased but not satisfied as he was interviewed after the game:

“Offensively we excelled. We were able to see what our running game is capable of and we like it. Our guys ran hard for us today and we will be counting on them throughout the season. Our passing game is developing well. We have some young faces that are stepping up and we look to get them involved as early as we can. We do need to improve on our drops and lack of execution. Mayfield was sacked a few times and we need to improve on blocking better and separating from defenders. The same applies to our defense. We need to make a statement on defense and not allow the opponent to throw for over 300 yards and rush for over 100. That run by Johnson could have been prevent if we just focused on the fundamentals which is tackling. So you know what we will be practicing on before our game in week three.”
