CHICAGO, IL - Quarterback sensation Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears continue to make believers out of everyone in the Windy City. Williams threw for five touchdowns - four of them to Rome Odunze - and ran for another as Mark Miller's Bears outlasted the New York Giants 45-42 in an electrifying Week 10 shootout at Soldier Field.
Williams ignites early
The Bears (5-4) opened the scoring with a 46-yard field goal from Cairo Santos, then Williams put his dynamic ability on display on their next drive. On 1st-and-goal from the 2-yard line, Williams rolled right and outran defenders to the pylon for a touchdown. "That's just instinct," Williams said. "I saw the lane, trusted my speed, and went for it."
The Giants (3-7) responded with a 5-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, but Williams countered quickly, finding Odunze on a 1-yard touchdown pass to reclaim the lead. New York's Graham Gano added a field goal before halftime, but the Bears led 17-10 at the break.
Third-quarter fireworks
Both offenses exploded in a wild third quarter. The Giants' Russell Wilson connected with Jalin Hyatt for a 24-yard touchdown, tying the game 17-17. Williams then found Odunze for a 17-yard touchdown to put Chicago back ahead.
New York punched back as Tyrone Tracy Jr. scored from 23 yards out, but the Bears answered immediately - Williams hit Luther Burden III on a 40-yard strike, then capped the quarter with his fourth TD pass to Odunze, this one from a yard out, giving Chicago a 38-31 lead heading into the fourth.
Giants rally falls short
Early in the final quarter, Gano nailed a 34-yard field goal, and Wilson later ran in from 1 yard out, hitting Theo Johnson for a 2-point conversion to tie it at 38. But with 4:31 remaining, Williams delivered again, finding Odunze deep for a 39-yard touchdown - their fourth scoring connection of the night.
Wilson wasn't done, driving the Giants back downfield and finding Darius Slayton for a 42-yard touchdown with 3:18 left, but the Bears' defense held firm the rest of the way to secure the 45-42 victory.
Miller praises resilience
Head coach Mark Miller applauded his team's perseverance in a back-and-forth thriller. "That's what football's about," Miller said. "Our young guys stepped up when it mattered most. Caleb showed incredible poise, and Rome just kept finding ways to get open."
Williams finished with 376 passing yards, five touchdowns, and one rushing score. Odunze caught 11 passes for 172 yards and four touchdowns, while Khalil Herbert added 87 yards on the ground. For the Giants, Wilson threw for 334 yards and three touchdowns, while Slayton and Hyatt combined for 166 receiving yards.
