Houston, TX – The Houston Texans bounced back from last week’s loss with a 31-23 win over the Seattle Seahawks at NRG Stadium. Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud delivered a standout performance, throwing four touchdown passes to lead Houston to a 3-1 record. The Seahawks, still searching for their first win of the season, dropped to 0-4.
Game Recap
The Texans struck first on their opening drive as C.J. Stroud found Stefon Diggs for a 6-yard touchdown. Seattle responded with a 32-yard touchdown pass from rookie quarterback Tanner Pittman to D.K. Metcalf, tying the game at 7-7. Houston regained the lead later in the first quarter when C.J. Stroud connected with Nico Collins for a 2-yard touchdown, putting the Texans ahead 14-7.
Seattle struggled in the red zone during the second quarter, settling for two field goals from Jason Myers from 50 and 31 yards out. Meanwhile, C.J. Stroud continued to pick apart the Seahawks’ defense, throwing his third touchdown of the half, another strike to Nico Collins from 10 yards out. The Texans entered halftime with a 21-13 lead.
The Seahawks closed the gap in the third quarter with another field goal, making it 21-16, but Houston responded with a methodical 75-yard drive capped off by Nico Collins’ third touchdown reception of the game. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Texans led 28-16.
Seattle made things interesting when Tanner Pittman found Noah Fant for a 13-yard touchdown, cutting the deficit to 28-23. However, the Texans put together a clock-draining drive, ending with a Ka’imi Fairbairn field goal to make it 31-23. The Seahawks had one final possession but failed to convert on fourth down, securing the Texans’ victory.
Key Stats
C.J. Stroud completed 21 of 28 passes for 234 yards and four touchdowns without throwing an interception. Tanner Pittman had a solid game despite the loss, completing 26 of 39 passes for 298 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. On the ground, Joe Mixon led the way for Houston with 16 carries for 103 yards, while Kenneth Walker III had 14 carries for 74 yards for Seattle.
Nico Collins had a career day with six receptions for 52 yards and three touchdowns. Stefon Diggs added five catches for 88 yards and one touchdown. On the other side, D.K. Metcalf hauled in five passes for 105 yards and a touchdown, while Noah Fant contributed five receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown.
