LAS VEGAS, NV - In the spotlight of the Game of the Week, the Dallas Cowboys leaned on their ground game and walk-off toughness, storming back to steal a 34-28 overtime win over the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium and move to 9-1 on the season.
Blue's 96-yard bolt jump-starts Dallas
The night began as a Raiders showcase. Jalen Milroe carved up the Dallas secondary with a 23-yard strike to Brock Bowers on Las Vegas' opening drive, then added a late second-quarter touchdown to Tre Tucker to give the Raiders a 14-7 halftime lead.
Dallas' answer came in the form of pure speed. Early in the second quarter, Jaydon Blue took an inside handoff, hit the crease and never looked back, exploding for a 96-yard touchdown that silenced the crowd and tied the game at 7-7. Blue finished with 9 carries for 154 yards and the score, averaging a ridiculous 17.1 yards per attempt.
Fourth-quarter chaos: Prescott and Milroe trade haymakers
After a scoreless third quarter, the game turned into a track meet. Dak Prescott finally found rhythm, opening the fourth with a 19-yard touchdown to tight end Jake Ferguson to knot the game at 14-14. Las Vegas answered with Milroe hitting Robert Woods for a 9-yard score, and after another Dallas march, Prescott connected with CeeDee Lamb from 14 yards out to tie things again at 21-21.
Milroe refused to blink. The Raiders' quarterback capped a brilliant performance by finding Bowers down the seam for a 32-yard touchdown with just 27 seconds left, seemingly delivering a signature 28-21 win for a Raiders team desperate to turn its season around.
But Prescott had one last miracle. With time expiring, he uncorked a moon-ball down the right sideline to George Pickens, who slipped behind the coverage for a 51-yard touchdown as the clock hit zero, sending the Game of the Week to overtime tied at 28-28. Prescott finished 16-of-31 for 207 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
"I just told the guys, 'Give me one more shot,'" Prescott said afterward. "George made an unreal play, and from there we knew if we got the ball back, our run game would finish it."
Defense delivers, then Williams slams the door in OT
The Raiders won the overtime coin toss and elected to receive, but Dallas' defense delivered the turning point. After two short gains set up a manageable 3rd-and-5, left edge rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku knifed into the backfield and buried Milroe for a huge sack, forcing a punt and flipping momentum squarely to the Cowboys' sideline.
Starting near midfield, head coach Andres Perez never hesitated. Dallas did not attempt a single pass in overtime, instead handing the game to its one-two punch in the backfield. Javonte Williams and Blue alternated carries on an eight-play march that chewed up yards and clock. Williams' second-to-last touch went for his longest run of the night, a 16-yard burst through the right side that put the ball on the doorstep. He punched it in on the next snap from three yards out to end it, finishing with 16 carries for 80 yards and the walk-off score.
"We wanted to impose our will," Perez said. "When our defense got that stop, our offensive line told me, 'Coach, let us finish this.' Javonte and Jaydon did the rest."
Despite the loss, Raiders head coach Max Farias praised his team's fight. Las Vegas piled up 434 yards of offense and went 5-of-8 on third down, with Milroe throwing for 246 yards and four touchdowns against two interceptions while adding 52 rushing yards. Running back Ashton Jeanty churned out 126 yards on 17 carries, and Bowers delivered a star turn with 4 catches for 78 yards and two scores.
"We went toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the league," Farias said. "We just couldn't get that one last stop or that one last first down in overtime."
Statement win for a contender, encouragement for a spoiler
For Dallas, the win is another statement in a season full of them. The Cowboys rolled up 437 yards of offense and a staggering 230 rushing yards, repeatedly leaning on a physical front that wore down the Raiders late. The victory pushes them to 9-1, back on track after their lone loss two weeks ago in Arizona.
Las Vegas, meanwhile, falls to 3-7, but the performance suggests the Raiders still have plenty of fight left as potential spoilers down the stretch. Milroe's chemistry with Bowers and Woods, along with Jeanty's production on the ground, gives Farias a dynamic core to build around.
