Detroit, MI – In a highly anticipated clash, the Detroit Lions hosted the Atlanta Falcons at Ford Field in the 2K Online Franchise’s Game of the Week for Week 3. The Lions emerged victorious with a dominant performance, defeating the previously undefeated Falcons by a final score of 48-21. This win propelled the Lions to a 2-1 record while handing the Falcons their first loss of the season, dropping them to 2-1 as well.
The game’s opening quarter saw the Lions seize control, setting the tone for the matchup. Running back David Montgomery powered his way into the end zone for the first score of the game, marking his second touchdown of the season. Montgomery displayed his prowess, tallying 105 yards on 21 carries, including a thrilling 38-yard burst, the longest run of the game.
But the first quarter’s defining moment belonged to the Lions’ defense. Cornerback Bryce Callahan intercepted Falcons quarterback Desmond Ridder and raced 70 yards to the end zone, extending the Lions’ lead to 14-0. Callahan, reflecting on the pivotal play, said, “I saw Ridder’s eyes, and I knew he was locked in on his target. I jumped the route and took it to the house.”
As if things couldn’t get worse for the Falcons in the opening frame, Ridder’s struggles continued. He fumbled on an option play, but the Falcons’ defense held firm, denying the Lions any additional points. Nevertheless, the Lions continued to exploit the Falcons’ vulnerabilities, with cornerback Cameron Sutton intercepting Ridder and returning it for a 34-yard touchdown. The first quarter concluded with the Lions commanding a 21-0 lead.
The Lions extended their lead in the second quarter when quarterback Jared Goff connected with wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown for a touchdown, making it 28-0. The Falcons finally got on the board late in the second quarter, as Tyler Allgeier punched in a 3-yard rushing touchdown, his fourth of the season. However, with just four seconds left before halftime, Lions kicker Riley Patterson booted a 46-yard field goal, pushing the score to 31-7 in favor of Detroit.
The Falcons sought to mount a comeback after the halftime break, as Ridder and wide receiver Mack Hollins connected for a touchdown on the opening drive of the third quarter. A successful two-point conversion narrowed the gap to 31-15, but the Lions maintained control. No matter how spirited the Falcons’ efforts were, the Lions always seemed to have an answer, ultimately securing the win with a commanding 48-21 lead.
Jared Goff had a standout performance for the Lions, amassing 220 yards passing, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions, completing 16 of 20 passes. David Montgomery was the driving force in the ground game, accumulating 105 yards on 21 carries with one touchdown. Amon-Ra St. Brown shone with 109 receiving yards, seven receptions, and two touchdowns. Defensively, Cameron Sutton, Bryce Callahan, Alex Anzalone, and Kerby Joseph each contributed an interception.
On the other side, Desmond Ridder struggled, throwing one touchdown and a staggering four interceptions, resulting in just 161 passing yards and a QBR rating of 49.4, his lowest of the season. Bijan Robinson carried the load on the ground for the Falcons, notching 111 yards on 27 carries but failed to find the end zone. Mack Hollins added 54 receiving yards and one touchdown, while Kyle Pitts made five receptions for 54 yards but couldn’t make it into the end zone.
Ridder expressed his disappointment after the loss, saying, “This wasn’t the performance we wanted to deliver. We have a lot to work on and will come back stronger next week.”
