KANSAS CITY, MO - The Kansas City Chiefs didn't have the season they hoped for in Season 32, finishing 7-10 and missing the playoffs for the second year in a row. But one of the few bright spots continues to be wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who just wrapped up his third year in the league with another productive campaign.
Worthy caught 62 passes for 886 yards and 5 touchdowns this season, posting a career-high 14.3 yards per catch. His longest reception went for 74 yards - a highlight play that reminded everyone just how dangerous he is with the ball in his hands. Though his touchdown numbers dipped from 13 the season prior, his impact on the Chiefs’ offense was undeniable. He also averaged 4.8 yards after catch, his best mark yet, and posted a catch rate above 91%.
"Every year, he comes back better," said head coach Andy Reid. "Xavier's one of those guys who shows up, puts in the work, and makes plays when we need them. He's turning into a leader in that room."
Reliable and Efficient
Through three seasons in the 2K Online Franchise, Worthy has become one of the most reliable receivers in the AFC. He has 180 career receptions for 2,308 yards and 21 touchdowns, while maintaining a catch rate of 93.8% on 192 targets. He has just 12 drops in 38 games.
In Season 31, he broke out with 1,094 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns, finishing 15th in the league in receiving yards and establishing himself as one of the top red zone weapons in the AFC.
"He's fast, no doubt, but it's the trust we've built that makes the biggest difference," said quarterback Patrick Mahomes. "I know where he's going to be, and I know he's going to make the catch."
Outpacing the Offense
Despite Kansas City’s struggles offensively - ranking 21st in total yards, 29th in rushing, and 21st in scoring - Worthy remained a consistent threat. Quarterback play has been inconsistent, but Worthy's efficiency has helped move the chains when little else worked. His 12.8 yards per catch and 60.7 receiving yards per game over his career speak to his ability to produce no matter the situation.
What’s Next
The Chiefs will need more help on both sides of the ball to compete in the AFC West. But with Worthy returning for his fourth season and already playing like a veteran, they have a foundational piece to build around. The front office has to be thrilled with what they’ve seen from the former rookie, one of the few players on the roster who's gotten better every year.
