EAST RUTHERFORD, NY - The New York Jets have signed kicker Harrison Mevis following a standout season with the UFL's Birmingham Stallions. The move comes as the team looks to stabilize its special teams unit ahead of Season 33.
A College Standout with Big Game Pedigree
Mevis first gained national attention at Missouri, where he built a reputation for long-range accuracy and clutch kicks. He left the Tigers as one of their most dependable special teams weapons, converting 89 of 106 career field goal attempts and nearly perfect on extra points. His signature moment came on a 61-yard walk-off game-winner that earned him national kicker of the week honors.
Rebuilding Value in the UFL
Mevis signed with the Birmingham Stallions in the UFL, where he was one of the top-performing specialists. He made 20 of 21 field goal attempts, including five from beyond 50 yards, and was consistently effective on kickoffs. His combination of power and consistency caught the attention of several front offices, with the Jets ultimately pulling the trigger on a deal.
Jets Special Teams Shuffle
New York's decision to bring in Mevis marks their latest attempt to find long-term consistency at kicker. The team cycled through multiple options in Season 32, and with expectations higher than ever following a 15-2 campaign and a narrow Wild Card win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the front office is looking to shore up every phase of the game. Their season ultimately ended in the Divisional Round with a 34-30 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, making every roster decision more critical heading into Season 33.
A Growing Trend from the UFL
Mevis isn't the only recent UFL standout making the leap to the 2K League. The Denver Broncos recently signed cornerback Mario Goodrich, also from the Stallions, as more teams begin to tap into the talent pool outside the traditional collegiate pipeline.
With kickers often undervalued until mistakes occur, Mevis could prove to be one of the quietest yet most impactful signings of the offseason if he seizes the job in camp.
Up Next
Mevis is expected to compete with Caden Davis for the starting job. Given the Jets' status as one of the top contenders in the league, every roster spot matters-and Mevis will get his chance to earn it as the team heads into training camp with one of the deepest and most complete rosters in the league.
