SANTA CLARA, CA - The Atlanta Falcons remain perfect after outlasting Jeff Jarin's resurgent San Francisco 49ers 27-21 on Sunday Night Primetime. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. accounted for four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing), and Chuck Davis' team moved to 6-0 with a composed road performance against a Niners squad that had won three straight after an 0-3 start.

Penix's poise shines early

Scoreless into the final minute of the first quarter, Penix broke through on an 11-yard keep to put Atlanta up 7-0. The 49ers answered just before halftime when Brian Robinson Jr. powered in from two yards out to make it 7-7 at the break.

Big plays define the third

San Francisco seized its only lead when Skyy Moore hauled in a 66-yard bomb from Brock Purdy. Penix answered quickly, finding Drake London for a 28-yard score (the extra point was missed), trimming it to 14-13.

Falcons finish strong

Atlanta took control in the fourth with two Penix touchdown darts: a 12-yarder to Charlie Woerner and a 6-yarder to Casey Washington to make it 27-14. Purdy's 3-yard strike to Ricky Pearsall with 1:20 left gave the Niners life, but Atlanta secured the onside kick and ran out the clock.

"Every week we get tested differently," Davis said. "In the fourth quarter, it came down to detail-and our guys executed." Purdy credited Atlanta's resilience: "We had chances, but they responded every time."

By the numbers

Penix went 19-of-29 for 248 yards and 3 TDs, adding 10 rushing yards and a TD. London posted 50 yards and a score; Woerner (59 yards) and Washington (6 yards) grabbed the other TDs. For San Francisco, Purdy finished with 256 yards and 2 TDs; Moore (66-yard TD) totaled 101 receiving yards, Pearsall added 59 yards and a TD, and Robinson Jr. logged 20 rushing yards with his goal-line score.

Up Next

The Falcons return home in Week 8 to host the Miami Dolphins in another marquee matchup of high-powered offenses. The 49ers hit the road to face the Houston Texans as they look to get back to .500.
