DETROIT, MI - The Detroit Lions dictated everything in a convincing Week 2 win, 29-7, over the Chicago Bears. Quarterback Jared Goff carved the Bears with ruthless efficiency, while running back Jahmyr Gibbs powered the ground game to the tune of 165 yards and two touchdowns. First-year Bears coach Mark Miller watched his offense struggle to sustain drives against a fast, opportunistic defense coached by Dan Campbell's staff.
Game Recap
Detroit seized control early with long, patient marches that bled the clock and wore down Chicago's front. Goff spread the ball to Amon-Ra St. Brown, Kalif Raymond and tight end Sam LaPorta, then let Gibbs finish drives with decisive cuts and burst through the second level. LaPorta added a red-zone touchdown, and Detroit stacked on points with methodical possessions that produced three field goals to build a multi-score cushion.
Chicago's response hinged on rookie quarterback Caleb Williams connecting with Rome Odunze down the seams and a short scoring strike to DJ Moore, but the Bears rarely flipped field position. Detroit defenders Jack Campbell and Brian Branch punctuated the night with interceptions, and the Lions' front limited Chicago to nine first downs.
Key Stats
Goff completed 30 of 32 passes for 250 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions, commanding a ball-control attack that produced 451 total yards and 24 first downs. Gibbs carried 25 times for 165 yards and two scores, repeatedly churning through contact; LaPorta caught eight passes for 60 yards and a touchdown, while St. Brown added seven for 93. Detroit finished five red-zone trips with three touchdowns and two field goals to keep the scoreboard moving.
For Chicago, Williams went 16-of-28 for 180 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Odunze was a bright spot with six receptions for 99 yards, and Moore caught the Bears' lone score. The rushing game never found traction, and Chicago's offense managed just 168 offensive yards against a defense that also produced four sacks.
Quotes
"We wanted to play our brand-efficient and physical," Goff said. "When we're on schedule and staying ahead of the sticks, it's tough to get us off the field."
"Our line owned the line of scrimmage," Gibbs said. "They kept giving me creases, and we finished in the red area."
"That's complementary football," Campbell said. "Takeaways by Jack and Brian, long drives by the offense-exactly how we want to win."
Bears coach Mark Miller put it simply: "We have to help our quarterback with balance and better situational football. Credit to Detroit-they dictated it."
