Real coaches, real tendencies
At the heart of Coach DNA is a machine learning model trained on decades of real NFL playcalling data. That means teams no longer call random plays. Instead, they follow patterns based on:

- Even weather conditions
Want to know what Dan Campbell would call on 4th and short? He's going for it. Facing Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts? Expect a steady diet of RPOs and zone reads. These tendencies aren't hardcoded - they're data-driven and evolve as you play.
Coach suggestions with purpose
When you open the Coach Suggestions tab, you'll now see plays that are more than just good fits for the situation - they reflect your coach's personality.
Each suggested play includes a new banner called Coach Speak, powered by a language-learning AI that mimics how real coaches think and talk. If you’re playing as Dan Campbell, expect gritty messages. If you’re with Andy Reid, it might highlight a clever offensive wrinkle.
You can follow the suggestion, or go your own way - but you'll always know why a play is being recommended.
Adaptive counters: Know your opponent
Coach DNA isn't just about what you would do - it learns what your opponent is doing too.
Introducing Adaptive Counters - a feature that tracks tendencies and suggests counters in real-time. If a mobile QB keeps gashing you with runs, you'll start seeing more QB Contain and zone-heavy plays suggested. Facing someone spamming vertical routes? Expect more Cover 4 or split-field looks to appear in your list.
These counters are clearly labeled as "Counter" in the menu, giving you fast access to the right plays without needing to manually scroll through your whole playbook.
Real-time coaching AI
Borrowed from College Football 25 and enhanced for Madden, Real-Time Coaching AI brings a new level of deception and disguise to defense.
CPU defenses can now:
- Show two-high, rotate to one-high post-snap
- Delay blitzes for better timing
- Adjust fronts and stunts mid-motion
- That means you'll need to read the field after the snap, not just pre-snap. It also forces user players to get better at disguising their own intentions when playing defense.
- Coaching archetypes further enhance this realism:
- Blitz-heavy coordinators (like the Chiefs) bring pressure from all angles
- Disguise-heavy defenses (like the Eagles) hide coverage behind zone shells
- Gap-focused teams (like the Steelers) build walls at the line of scrimmage
These strategies shift how you prepare and force you to adapt mid-game - no more calling the same play 10 times and expecting it to keep working.
League model and playbook customization
For players using custom coaches or mixing playbooks, EA has added a League Model, trained on global NFL trends. It ensures that even when there's no "real" coach behind the team, AI playcalling still reflects real leaguewide tendencies.
All of this is updated through title updates as the real NFL season progresses, so evolving trends - like defensive shell usage or 4th down aggression - make their way into your Madden experience.
